PSA: If you're having issues, try unsubscribing from Steam BETA
After having multitudes of issues, and getting framerates of 50 in the stage select menus, and 40-45 in stages, with extremely slow attack and special animations, as well as 35-40 in the castle with all the NPC's on screen, turning off steam beta seems to have fixed it for some bizzare reason. I'm getting solid 60 in the castle, and ocasional 3 frame dips in stages down to 57, but no problems otherwise.

If you're having inconsistent framerates this might help make the game more playable for you

Specs are
AMD Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.4 GHz
4 GB DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760

Edit: Made system specs slightly more accurate

Edit2: Glad to see this is helping so many people. Thanks for the pin, mods!

Holy cow, that did it for me! Thanks so much!!!

Confirming. This removed all slowdowns that my game had previously. I can now play Disgaea normally.

I am baffled as to why this works, but I read it in a forum post somewhere else, and decided to repost here for anyone who is trying to find any solutions that might work. This might explain some of the "Wild variance in systems that run without problems vs systems that can't run the game at all"

Just as I always thought, before blaming devs, you should try to check your "sh*tty" pc for problems.
But this solution is at least strange.... I like it:htshocked:
Thanks a lot. Works perfectly now)

I never subscribed to the Beta and its been running flawlessly for me. Perhaps you just found the key to it all, considering how random the people the setups vs problems running have been. Neat find.

I wasn't subscribing to Steam Beta from the start... only problem is if it's on for a few hours it crashes

That fixed it!!! I was subscribed to the steam beta, I unsubsribed, and wow, I get 60 fps, but I can still confirm the controller issue if one isn't pluged in. but at least the game is now playable.

I will play iit now and see if I have anymore issues and report back

so the above worked. that is sure a strange issue, I wonder if there is a problem with the steam update system or with the beta itself?

This did it for me as well!

Steam Beta has caused some issues for games in the past as well, Crashlands being a recent example. This is generally issues with the Beta and not the game, so later updates of the Beta might fix it.

Might be worth adding this solution to the pinned post.

What the... This is incredible. I can't thank you enough! Unsubscribing from the beta actually upped my FPS from 15-20 to 60!

And after literally triying every single fix proposed here without any success whatsoever. Right now, it seems that my performance problems are gone, but I will continue playing to see if the FPS are stable and constant. Thanks again, man!

What does Steam beta actually do besides upgrading the client ? How the client can affect a game ? Is the overlay bugged ? Does it work with overlay disabled ?
Ian Link Feb 26, 2016 @ 12:18am
Wow, this actually worked! Thanks dood!

Ok, all things I don't even use. I'll opt out of this beta too then. I thought that you got patches (for games) earlier with this activated (it was the case for some games like DOA I think ?)
