remove fog completely?
Hey guys, in my opinion the view distance is still very ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and not up to date. Is there a away to remove or decrease the fog in the config?

Turn on the extended draw distance in the options and the fog will be removed.

Yeah but not completely, which was his question. I believe as its maximum possible otherwise if it get more draw distance I guess as there arent prepared textures for it.

Interesting, I don't share the same sentiment about the fog in that case.

The fog is part of turok's nostalgia charm imo, i do think it should be toned down a little bit but not removed. But that's just my opinion, if you want to remove it completely then that's up to you.

It's just more atmospheric with fog i think

At the moment there doesn't seem to be an obvious way. Wait for people to figure out something with the console commands, or perhaps make a cheat engine table. That may not be possible either though since without the fog the game probably would still cull a lot of stuff and you'd just end up seeing incomplete levels.

IMO the fog probably could have used a bit more toning down, but for some levels it already looks a bit rediculous. You can see stuff like floating rock traps in the sky, those pillars that lift up when puzzles are done you literally can just see are stuck in the air, and some levels like that one village with all the bridges would be an absolute mess if you just saw 30 branching paths with 100+ enemies trying to shoot you.

Yeah I have found the fog to be annoying, on level 6 where you have to make big jumps between stuff, even with the "extended draw distance" I still can't see stuff properly. I have found if I look about 90° left or right, the fog isn't drawn and I can see further... :steamfacepalm:

The fog has to be there in level 6, otherwise you'd just see things you aren't supposed to see. and it'd look really ugly.

I'm not sure if it can be removed, but in all actuality, it would be worse for wear if it was removed. That fog is part of Turok 1's visuals more than anything at this point. Yeah, modern machines could run it without the fog, but it just wouldn't be the same.

For those who don't want to comb through an over half-hour video looking for one setting, the system variable is r_zfarextent[smoke39.github.io]

This doesn't affect enemy AI, and as others have pointed out the levels are missing tons of geometry that gets revealed if you push the fog out. A better approach would be a mod with expanded maps and maybe also altered enemy actor defs to extend the distance at which their AI is suspended.
