Flightsim without VR?
I am a big fan of flightsims. But without VR it is: No , thank you.

VR is a niche within a niche. A toy. It's nice, but hardly necessary.

I've played the game in VR (Quest 3), and it's actually really fun. I can't promise it'll be fully supported in early access, but it's on the roadmap.

100% necessary for ANY sim

HAhahaha okay there, pal.
Loved the game back in the day but these days without VR it's not a real life sim, the immersion can never match VR in 2D. Already have a great one that supports VR, won't even try this without.
Hell yeah! VR would be the cherry on the cake

Wow what a petulant post... Is that's how someone politely asks if VR might be added or if UEVR might work these days. 😮
Glad to hear the Dev has tried it and it could work. I'd love to see it added. No controllers needed. There's too many different versions now...but it would be great to be able to use our headsets. I loved Gunship 2000. Great fun gameplay. I'll be buying on release. 👍

So VR (inevitable technology) massively used in military and air force training, is a niche? A toy? Something that allows you to look around using natural head movements, tracks your hands/fingers, provides stereoscopic 3d at resolutions exceeding a flat 4k monitor screen, is a toy?

Might be a good idea to think whether your statement makes any sense before you type it.

Why the "niche" argument fails:

VR is used extensively by army, air force and space industry. Fanatec produce high end racing wheels, pedal setups for racing sims. Their F1 wheels can cost thousands. Niche hardware. Does that make it irrelevant? I know retired US F18 pilots using VR with DCS. I know retired Tornado/Hawk pilots using VR with DCS.

You can buy full F18 and F35 cockpit setups costing thousands. Some people build their own. Niche. Does that make it irrelevant? It's a thriving industry in spite of being niche.

"VR is a toy" argument fails because:

Your body comes complete with a head that pivots and swivels. Your head features 2 cameras that combine to produce a 3d image.

VR is an interface designed around your natural physiology. Head tracking, 3d vision, hand tracking, finger tracking, eye tracking. Thus VR is an advanced technology providing a much more natural and realistic experience. VR provides lifesize 3d visuals. In DCS World with VR, that AH64 cockpit is lifesized. You're able to look all around. Lean in closely and look at the switches and displays.

The most advanced systems allow a physical sim cockpit and VR combined.

So when you use cliches like "niche" and "toy"... you're really telling everyone you know nothing about VR.

Nice!

DCS World began life long before Oculus era VR... The initial support yielded very poor performance. Over the years it's been refined to the point where performance is now excellent.

Would be nice to see VR develop for this one as well.

With VR you are LITERALLY SEATED inside the Helicopter. LITERALLY as you can see anywhere around you and be 360º sorrounded by the game.. and the cherry on the top: in 3D stereoscopic as your eyes see in real life.

Even if you do not understand how incredible it feels, you may try to think objectively that some players may actually enjoy being INSIDE THE HELI
(instead of watching a 2D monitor screen)
Oh, I have a Quest 2. I've used VR. I think it's nice, I just don't think it's necessary.

Well gaming is not necessary.

You can get small chopper toy and play with it on that reasoning.

The point being asked is getting the most immersive way possible as today, without being the real thing: and that is VR.
I mean, I'm glad it'd being used for military training purposes. But for the average gamer? Unnecessary. Cutting yourself off from a game because it doesn't have VR is just the height of silliness.
