Controller issues / Steam Link

I'm experiencing input issues when trying to use a controller other than the Steam Controller or when trying to use Steam Link. Whenever I push a button on the not-Steam-Controller it switches to mouse controls and back immediately. Same happens when I'm using Steam Controller over Steam Link. I click the A button, nothing happens and all the prompts change to keyboard. Moving works fine. Steam Controller on PC works fine. Different controller doesn't work. Steam Link doesn't work. It's pretty weird because it's a standard Xinput device just like an Xbox360, so it should work. Never experienced something similar.

Make sure when you are in Big Picture mode you go to Settings then to Controller settings and select the appropriate emulation if any is required. Then you may have to disconnect then reconnect your controller for it to be properly recognized. It should show up in Steam First in that menu. If not then it is a Steam Link issue first. I had to wrestly with mine a little to get it to function the way I want but now its fine.

I'm not using the Steam Link for the first time and it worked good in the past. It's an issue that's only present with Vikings and not with any other game.

Backup .\steamapps\common\Vikings - Wolves of Midgard\vikings_Data\Plugins\XInputInterface32.dll in XInputInterface32.dll_, then copy XInputInterface64.dll and rename in XInputInterface32.dll.

Okay, but I have had the same issue where the Steam Link dropped some settings so it is worth checking out. It may be the game but 30 seconds will help eliminate other possibilities.

So I tried both your tips but nothing changed. Again - my problem lies only within the buttons. Movement, rolling and the camera in the main menu works absolutely fine.

Since it is like a 360 controller you seem to imply that it isn't an actual 360 controller. Did you select Xbox Controller Emulation in the Steam menu?

a weird similar problem happens when trying to stream to any Nvidia SHIELD device. When in menus, the analog sticks or the A button doesn't work at all, even at the start menu. Everything works in game though. I've posted about it and got no response so far :-/

That actually did the trick to make the controller work. But my bigger issue lies within the Steam Controller not working properly when playing the game over Steam Link despite it working perfectly fine when playing on PC.

where do I go to do this? Do I need to be in big picture mode or can I do this while not in big picture mode? Where is this option?

I would just assume it's an issue with the game and not with a setup or some weird configuration on our part because it works fine with everything else except Vikings. I was able to use the controller and the link to full extend from day one without the tiniest issue. Would be interesting to know whether somebody got it to work properly with a Link / Shield.

Make sure you ae in Big Picture mode. You may have to disconnect then reconnect the controller.

It's a bug in combination Vikings an Steam Link. Tried Steam Controller and Xbox One Controller. Both of them not working correctly. Xbox One Controller works fine ingame, but when it comes to menus it doesn't work. Can't use the left stick to change inventory slots and so on. Also the "A" Button doesn't work to accept any setting. But the right trigger does. But not everywhere. There are several places, like the inventory, where it doesn't work in any way. The Steam Controller has much more problems but works partly in menus.
Kalypso should look onto this ASAP!

I just contacted the Kalypso support about it. We'll see if they have any hint for this issue.
