Easy isn't really easy
Since I don't have much time for video games anymore I usually play on normal or on easy if it's a game I mainly play for the story. (Go ahead, call me a casual ;) )
I bought this game because I read and enjoyed the books and because I liked the idea of its' gameplay and started out on normal difficulty.
About 2 hours in I switched to easy, because I didn't feel like taking on a challenge and just wanted to enjoy the story...

What can I say?
I just died 10 times on EASY (mainly) because of the pathfinding.
I order my units to attack a certain enemy and what do they do? Spin around and start running off to the other direction while being hit by multiple enemies. Afterwars they're surrounded and basically doomed...

Dear devs. IF you offer an "easy"-option please, please, please make it easy. Games that let you choose between normal and hard give you the option to play the game the way it was meant to be or to challenge yourself.
An easy option should NEVER be frustrating the player imo.

I started to watch some tactics videos and read some guides but that's not an amount of effort I want to put into a game I play for the story.

What you're looking for isn't easy mode - it's a movie or a book.

I think I can tell a movie or a book from a game, thank you.
When I want a challenging game I play Dark Souls.

But please tell me what "easy" means if it doesn't mean no stress, low effort? I'm not a native speaker so I'd really like to know if I don't get the correct meaning of some words.

Looks like I dont want to play it anymore. Because I cannot win one batlle tens times on "easy" mode. To much time for nothing.

-Use as often as you can the pause mode and choose an attack for everyone. As soon one has 3 action points, Stop and use them.
-Use special locations as well, like canyons where you can throw the enemies down.
-Use Boendal for hard enemies like ogers, cause he has the passive that he can´t lose more than 5%health at once. his hammer strike is very strong, choose it between 2 or 3 enemies.
-Always let your chars stick together but with enough space every char has the possibility to kill its own enemy with your skills.
-The jump skill of Tungdil and Boindil is also good to get enemies in struggle. Laying orcs are onehit targets, no matter how much life they´ve got. So always after a jumpattack use pause and klick just on the orcs wich are on the ground.

The "easy" mode will get easy after about 5 hours ingame. I recommend you to do the sidequests by always helping everybody but never trust blindly so you will get more story content. The end will be (too) fast so try to change the mode to medium at ingame time 8h.

From reading OP it seems more that pathfinding would benefit of improvements or fixes than a pure difficulty problem.

When pathfinding isn't working well try micromanage more movements, Pillars of Eternity had pathfinding problems not really bugs but per design, typically a path blocked by another unit during the real time movement. Such problem is inherent of those real time with pause RPG.

The OP admits that he has a problem with the difficulty and asks for an advice but gets laughed at by some "hardcore" players who eat difficult modes on a daily basis. You know what guys? Eat a ♥♥♥♥.

Ouka Hikari, I find The Dwarves difficult on easy as well. I usually play stealth or action games on higher difficulties but RPG games on normal. I switched The Dwarves to easy from a start to enjoy the story - I quickly found combat a little too difficult. Maybe I rushed too far north from the beginning and that is why the encounter with the pale elf and her horse proved too difficult? But I simply followed the main quest there. Any advice?

I played on normal until the very end. I switched on easy because it was getting difficult and didn't have the will to re-make a fight 15 more times.

Guess what ? Easy was really easy, i steamrolled everything, no problem. Just use the tactical pause and use you abilities.

Dude i beat the game on normal...only mission i died twice was because i tried invading an orc fortress withoud any plan whatsoever and got murdered by a ♥♥♥♥ton of archers, fixed it by searching an alternate path to the place i wanted to go on the worldmap. And im not even expert on strategy games or rpgs.

The game is not hard if you actualy pause to make comands to see what you are doing instead of trying to beat it in real timem also keep your characters close, if they get surounded they WILL take a ♥♥♥♥ton of damage, for that always think your comp before selecting your heroes...

@Prez
murder the archer alf as fast as possible with double axed dwarf, since he has a very good mobility with his jumping skill and can do a ♥♥♥♥ton of damage to a single target with his other skill, but be carefull soo he dosent get surounded by undead(he can run faster than then, soo it shouldnt be too hard), and clean the undead using the main character and the 2 handed warrior dwarf( KEEP THEM BOTH TOGETHER SOO THEY DONT GET SUROUNDED, and be carefull eith the charge atack of the horse, soo they dont get too separated)..Remenber to atack them on the ground soo you can chop their head or else they will get back up. You should also have some healing potions or reliqs to keep your heroes hp up (remenber too that your heroes can also recharge hp it they are out of combat, soo you can also use 2 dwarves to block the path of the undead soo the other one can heal)

I am going to have to agree. The game is unbalanced in the sections that are easy or hard. Some fights are over before you know it, while others are a terrible slog.

My fundamental problem is that, no matter how strong my characters seem to be, they can't endure forever. The game seems more about trying to manage the health of your characters and hoping they don't get caught in a bad situation before you can pull them out.

On the long battles, this is deeply frustrating, as inevitably one falls 15 minutes in and you are forced to restart... over and over and over.

I am also quite frustrated over the friendly fire. Certain characters, while useful, are hard to use in close quarters because their attacks randomly kill one of your allies. (For example, the poison arrows.) Yes, you can see the possible targets in the attack, but this really doesn't help when you are already frustrated and trying to grind through again as quickly as possible, only to screw up by mistaking which health bar became active.

Finally, since doing well in the game seems based on pausing constantly, I admit I don't find that fun. There is a reason I picked this up instead of a turn based game.

So many things about the game are commendable, it is sad to be let down by the combat system.

I actually came to the forums looking for a 64bit trainer since I could only find 32, which isn't compatible anymore.
I've no interest in micromanaging and pausing, rather brute force my tanky midgets through hordes of orcs.
Let me know if anyone finds a working one, I might have a crack at using cheatengine myself, but I've got other games to play.
