Hamachi is insecure, and does not have many features. You can only make a simple sandbox server. Don't use it with random people on the internet.
1.Download SteamCMD from the Valve Developer page, or simply Google for "SteamCMD"
2.Download it, and extract the steamcmd.exe somewhere you want
3.Run it, and wait 'till everything loaded
4.Log in anonymously by typing in "login anonymous" without the quotes
5.Type in "force_install_dir C:\<replace this with the folder you want, can be anything that doesn't exist yet, it will be automaticly generated>" again, without the quotes
6.Type in "app_update 4020 validate" without quotes
7.Wait until everything downloaded. It can take like 1 hour.
8.When it's finished, go to your force_install_dir directory
9.Edit your cfg files in the server folders and make sure everything is how you wish it to be
10.Make a "gamemodes" folder in the "garrysmod" server folder. Then Put the "Prophunt" folder in the "gamemodes" folder.* To make it from the Workshop, copy the Page-URL
11.Make a shortcut of the srcds.exe file outside the "garrysmod" server folder.
12.Right click on the shortcut, click on "Properties", and insert:"-game garrysmod +host_workshop_collection <replace this with the copied Page-URL of Prophunt, and remove it all, except the number after the /id=
13.Insert the authkey by signing in at the Steam browser.** I will have to find the link. I'm not sure if this Workshop gamemode thing is supposed to work like that. I just think it works like this.
That's what I know.
**Link for tutorial on how to install addons:
http://wiki.garrysmod.com/page/Workshop_for_Dedicated_Servers
*Then go into the Properties of your srcds.exe shortcut which comes in the next step, and add: +gamemode Prophunt
A:It's much much easier to run a server. You just have to disable all addons you don't want to be in.
D:Very unsafe. Untrustworthy people can watch at your IP in Hamachi, then go and hack your PC, if they know how to do it.
So I think SteamCMD is better.2 advantages, 1 disadvantage.
A1.Pretty safe, and no one can get your IP that quick.
A2.You can let anyone else join, if you set sv_password to ""
D.Complicated to set up at the beginning.
Even I had problems doing it at first, but now I made everything correct. I just have to find out if people can join without anything preventing them from doing so.
Okay, these steps are not enough. When you try to join the server, it fails to make a connection. Your friend will get the error message "Server is not responding." 1 way, is to port forward your router. But to do this, you need to know the username and password of your router. If you don't, ask someone who does know it.
Or another way I thought of, is to enable your server, enter it, and run the following console command:
heartbeat; map <map>
The gamemode will stay as it was(I think)
You can then invite your friend to your server, and they SHOULD successfully enter it.
However, I doubt that this works anymore, because I saw this way in a really old video. Before GMod 13 was released, but it's worth a try.
I have a friend who had no problems. I'm trying to ask him sometimes, but he doesn't respond, or he says that he is busy with other things.
I am not a pro in this kind of stuff, but after looking through tutorials, I am collecting knowledge.
