World best game ! Play it!!!!!!!! JUST DOOOO IT!

I consider myself a vanilla+ player who leans more toward the purist side. I've beaten DX multiple times with no mods, and I dislike most of the mods that are enabled by default with Revision. However, even from my perspective, I feel like Revision takes too much flack from certain people. It's perfectly compatible with purist play, and in a few specific ways, it offers more to vanilla+ players than other options.

Why? Integration and customization. In terms of integration, this team has done the legwork to properly integrate functionality that is hard to combine otherwise. Particularly, if you want to play Lay D Denton with vanilla+ bug fixes and dialogue corrections, this is your best bet. By comparison, the Community Update (another great project which deserves props) uses an out-of-date version of Lay D Denton, and using their installer, Lay D Denton won't play well with Transcended (an excellent bugfix mod) or Confix (an excellent dialogue fix mod).

So how do you make Revision mostly vanilla? Once you're inside the game, BEFORE you start a new game, change the following options to what's indicated. If you get prompted to restart, IMMEDIATELY RESTART before changing any other options. If you try to change two things that require a restart at once, it may not properly apply both when you restart.

Options -> Game Options -> Map Type -> Vanilla
Options -> Game Options -> Gameplay Style -> Vanilla
Options -> HDTP Models -> Global -> None
Options -> Display -> New Vision -> Disabled
Options -> Colors -> Menu Color Scheme -> Default
Options -> Colors -> HUD Color Scheme -> Default
Options -> Sound -> Soundtrack -> Deus Ex

With all of these configured as such, you basically have Vanilla Deus Ex. However, you still get to keep most of the bugfixes and dialogue fixes, and you still get full access to the latest version of Lay D Denton. To access her, keep cycling the portraits in the character selection screen. Once you get past all of male JC's portraits, you will get access to Lay D's portraits.

From there, start and enjoy vanilla+ Deus Ex.
