Out of Ammo
Who's idea was it to make a game all about the guns and shooting, then made ammo scarce?
Every mission, I'm running out of pistol ammo mostly. I open every crate, every locker, break every scag ♥♥♥♥ pile. This is pathetic and frustrating.
Why even have ammo again?

I run into the same issue with pistol and SMG ammo, always out. There does seem to be a lot of ammo regularly available in lootables but it's rarely pistol or SMG, I don't know why. Feels like the game is telling me I need to play other weapon types if I want to have a steady supply without running to the ammo vendor every 2 minutes.

Ammo shops are on every corner. There are skills that either save or replenish ammo. Ammo pick ups drop everywhere.
Either scout these, or shoot sharper.

When you're in the middle of nowhere on these maps in the middle of a mission, fighting an elite, and you run out of ammo and there's nothing around.......should I just run away to an ammo shop?

Switch weapon types, or upgrade your SDUs. Not an issue.

Ok, seeing your BL3 stats and total played hours, I can only assume you are still little level, that cant benefit from ammo skills.
Besides, from the middle of nowhere you can simply teleport to the area holding ammo store, watch for the orange globe nearby.

Upd.
or upgrade your SDUs
he's not even on the ship yet.

Yeah I keep going back to the game (which I'm enjoying btw) but run out of ammo in the middle of a mission then just get annoyed that this is even a thing and stop playing.

You might want to look into your build then. There are skills, shields and artifacts that restore ammo directly or increase the pick-up numbers.

The simplest solution is cutpurse - can keep up with any comsumption and with new guardian perk even makes sense in terms of damage output.

If you are low level, definitely upgrade sdu for your guns of choice. Otherwise make sure to have a different gun type in each of your weapon slots. No use having same gun types equipped if you have no ammo for it

Side note: What FPS games don't use ammo? I can't think of any

Early game was really designed for the players to experiment with all the different types of weapons pre-Sanctuary. Other than continuously going back to the ammo machine, the best advice is really just to have and use different guns - unless you have a kind citizen that can take you to Sanctuary on their save file, providing you have the eridium for the SDU updates.

Early game still, only 2 weapon slots. Using SMG and Pistol

Ammo is a problem early game.

Once you have a few differnt gun types and upgrade your ammo stock it becomes not even a situation that happens until mayhem.

Between a pistol, assault rifle and a third gun you should never really run out if you switch between them.

Also strong guns like Jakobs help you get as much damage out per bullet you can get.

Ohh, ok in this case you might consider overleveling yourself a bit by making more side-quests or even going for dlc (main dlc quest scales with your level even in new game). This way you will kill so fast it will not take much ammo.

Alternatively, I was using Jakobs during 1st run and those guns do not need much ammo;)

lol at running out of ammo. it's not hard to accumulate money at any point in the game in the game. "No refunds." Marcus

Use different weapon types, aim better. Was never a problem for me.

Got plenty of money, but you can't just summon a vendor to buy ammo out in the middle of nowhere or while fighting an elite mob spawn.
I guess I can teleport back and buy ammo and then walk/drive back to where I was, but that isn't fun, it's tedious and breaks the flow of the games combat, and I would rather do a lot of other things at that point.
