The game is not dead.
The game dev have paused the dev of the game for 5 months now. Why ? Because the devs have money issues and they needed to fire a few of their staff to not drown. Stop the hate. Search informations before becoming salty at devs who still try to work for their players even with the lack of money.

Indeed, the project is on hold for now (since the last update) and for an unknown amount of time.

In short: nothing happened like I planned in term of revenues … And a team of 15 people does cost some money each month.
Sadly, in October, I didn’t have any money left to pay the team, so everyone quit the company to get other jobs ...

Since 9 months, because this situation was anticipated, I have been trying to get the money needed to finish the game (publishers, investors ...). This it is not an easy process.
In term of numbers, we spend almost 1.5 million euros (that mainly came from private investors and public loans) to get to the last update and we need almost 1 million to get the game’s dev done.
That money I thought it would come from early access sales, but we only made 10% of the required amount. You know, video game market today is really not something easy ...

I am still optimist that I will find a way to pull through this situation.
And you will be the first ones to be warned when this will be the case.

source?
Tastypeeper Feb 20, 2018 @ 10:52am
It's a french source. Still want it ?
MacBernick Feb 21, 2018 @ 6:06pm
hopefully it doesn't mean that the game is not dead yet

They miss 1/3 of their initial budget. They sold 8 000 copies while they needed 100 000 "nous avons fait 8000 ventes au lieu des 100 000 dont nous avions besoin". The boss of Cubical Drift needed to fire the whole team and he now try to find the 1 million € he miss to continue the dev. of the game.

My French may be a bit rusty but still good enough to understand what is being said in the forums, and OP either you are mistaken or didn’t quite manage to express what you may have meant to say, the game won’t be paused for 5 months like you are saying, it has been in pause for five months with no end to that pause in sight.

Okay as a french myself i just mixed french ortograph with english. Let me correct that.

I'm really sorry ... I know I shouldn't create this post at your place but after reading this forum i couldn't let this happen. I don't want the game to die :( I just want you to know all the community is with you ! On est tous prêt à sauver ce jeu qu'on aiment tant :D

I think we all wish the situation get better and you can go on with dev of the game at some point. I was very hyped about it, and started to build a fully working 8 bits CPU in it (your arithmetic units don't help, no overflow management d: ).

But in case the worse happen and you decide to give up, what's going to happen? Is making it open source is an option?
Scurra Feb 28, 2018 @ 4:09pm
Same here. I'm glad that we have some news at least - and that things do get better. I can imagine how stressful the last few months have been, and I send my best wishes.
But, as MacBernick notes, is there an emergency escape hatch here at all? I've seen several very promising titles (that I've backed through KS) falter at almost the last stage, and vanish into the abyss as a result; extra frustrating when supporters have wanted to help but obviously couldn't.

you could maybe go on kickstarter so people can donate money
Dinky Dino Mar 24, 2018 @ 5:16pm
Yes, kickstarter this NOW! It needs to be done. this game is amazing.
Skulleus Mar 24, 2018 @ 8:34pm
went thru one kickstarter already, failed to pull the numbers it needed. This game is key example of overshooting. Look at the update logs, if he cared at all to inform people of their "financial situation" they wouldve posted an update. I will not buy into a game that is dead content. This is "dead" content. You will not see another major update, and you will not get a optimization update. This game will not be finished. To quote the dev, " spent 1.5m euro to get to where they are now, and need another 1m euro to finish" well, if they haven't even given us an update on the situation do you think they ever will finish the game?
