Game Crashing after Killing Erhag

I haven't had any issues with this game past it's normal glitchyness until I fought and killed Erhag and his bodyguards in the cave to rescue Gawaan. Everytime I loot Erhags body, several seconds later the game abruptly crashes.

This has happened every time, I haven't had any issues with the graphics being too high but I tried turning them down all the way but still crashes at the same point in time.

I'm guessing there is something broken with the quest progression scripting there and really all I can think to do is contantly save, crash, save a little further in, and so on till I get out of that god forsaken cave or at least past the piece of bad script.

Any ideas?

Same, win7, GTX 680... Just realised I have already killed Erhag's minions a lot earlier.. possibly broken the thread.

I uninstalled and started playing Demonicon instead. Frustrating to have wasted about 40hrs messing around enjoying this game... Maybe it just wasn't meant to be

This happened to me on Win 7 with a 6850, 7870, and a 7970, as well as Win 10 when I tried the game again recently. I don't think it is hardware or OS related, I think something broke the script. Maybe we all over explored too much?

Try to keep them close to doors where Gawaan is prisoned. KIll bodyguards first then Erhag and after that run as fast as you can to Gawaan and talk with him. For some people it worked so maybe it will help you too :)

I'm getting this too. I killed his bodyguards first, then him right at the door, ran up to the npc and got into the first line of dialogue before sudden crash. It's happened 4 times now am I just boned?

Edit: Well I followed forum advice and installed the legacy version as well as the final patch and lost my save file in the process. My last game was an archer but I guess I'll go full on mage this time.

I never understood why people hate necro threads. I love this.
I had completely forgotten about playing this but I got partway back to where I was before the crash and lost interest. I hope others play and have fun though.
