Terrible VR performance.
I've got an i7 7700k and a Geforce 1080. The game runs at 70-120fps at epic @4k but in VR I have to turn everything to minimum and I still end up with frequent dips below 90fps. Something feels definitely wrong here but I'm not surte how to fix it.

Hello! I'd suggest you check the Screen Percentage and Anti Aliasing settings in the graphics options menu - especially Screen Percentage can have a big impact on performance, a screen percentage of 200 effectively renders 4x the amount of pixel data as 100 on top of your base resolution, so even with a current high-spec setup, I wouldn't go above 200. With current VR headsets, the visual quality doesn't change much above anyways.
Hope that helps!

I minimized both of them, with them at default levels I was struggleing to get 45fps.

Edit: Minimum is Screen scale 120%, AA off)

I have reported it in the stickied VR thread that minimum screen percentage is 120, not sure if its a bug. The performance is the same for me with a 1080 everything on low and still lots of dips below 90 which makes it unplayable (makes you sick).

Even if they drop the minimum to 50 so it would run acceptibly on a 1060 I still think ther must be some kind of huge performance bug somwhere. I get VR has hefty requirements (2 screens, highish res, 90fps, plus whatever is needed for head tracking) but this still feels a bit much.,

turn steam super sampling off and use the ingame supersampling, made a huage fps boost

I'm not using Steam Supersampling or Oculus Tray Tool supersampling. The game is literally on the lowest settings possible, short of any special way to use sub-sampling with an external tool.

I've been running it at 3.0 ss in steamVR. Runs pretty buttery for me. 5820k @ 4 ghz & 1080. Same settings as 2d, seems to run the same too. love using my hmd to look around, i seem to play better too! lol

Is that on Vive or a Rift? There's definitely something going on here I just can't figure out what. As it stands VR is unplayable for me.

While I was trying to get it to work it suddenly jumped to 90fps with 40% overhead on high at 180. When I excitedly tried to up it to epic it dropped to 20FPS. Arrrrgh!

I have a vive. Maybe check to make sure there are no 'boost my whatever" or "screen capture" programs running. I have a factory overclocked 1080 (asus strix) and havent OC'd it further than it was. I literally have nothing other than windows and steam running when i play, as this computer is strictly games only. No facebook, no messaging/voip, no streaming. nadda.

Just checked my settings: Epic on all the settings in the upper section, screen % was 160, temporal AA. My mirror screen looks to be about 1600 x 1200 in res, dunno if that has any bearing on performance tho(also have no idea how to change it, it's set at whatever default must be). Hope this helps man, this game is a blast. best of luck.

With low SP and AA, and overall low graphics settings, it's definitely strange that you have such a bad performance on a 1080. I'd guess that there is something in the system setup that is the bottleneck.
A few notes: The mirrored desktop screen should have (almost) no performance impact, that is rendered basically for free by the Oculus drivers (only minor work is the unwarping of the image). We did specify a minimum screen percentage of 120, because the image just becomes too blurry with a lower setting, its actually the minimum recommendation of Oculus.

Not sure what the bottleneck could be, the weakest element is RAM of which I have 8gb which is a bit low, but utilisation hovers around 60%. CPU is barely breaking a sweat, with none of the threads getting to 30%. GOU utilisation IS hitting near 100%

I guess the devs just aren't as suspectable to ATW dropping the game to 45 fps. On my 1080 I get the same bad performance in VR so i'ts not your system's config. Basically the VR implementation is just not up to par yet, going to edit my review showing this.

I personally have a worse setup than Rack does on my development machine (also 1070, but 6700k), and I'm playing in Oculus VR mode without any problems with other applications running. We have many players with worse setups that are playing in VR mode, so I'm pretty sure that there is something in the system or software configuration that's the issue. Could you tell us what mainboard you have? Also make sure to turn off any V-Sync / frame smoothing options in your Nvidia software.
That said, we continue to look into performance issues with VR and look into providing more graphics settings in the future.
