Don't assume. Check.
Run top and see what's eating up the ram. If you need to sort easier, you can use htop.
If you're still running 14.04, then you may be running an outdated nvidia driver as well. That might be a problem for these new UE4 games.
uh, you posted in a Steam forum, waited a little over 24 hours and no one responded with an immediate answer for your problem, despite the enormous lack of information about your system... and you're upset about it? Really?
14.04 is no longer the standard for teh Steam Runtime, it's definitely long in the tooth at this point, I'd recommend getting yourself to 16.04 as a general rule (this is what I'm running).
Your hardware is fine for ES.
Which Nvidia driver are you using - the one from the 14.04 repo must be quite old at this point...?
And no, I did not just wait here to someone miraculasly answer my question, I also tried to investigate on my own but could not find any solution.
At a certain point I stopped my investigation efforts and requested (and got) a refund - I will buy the game again, when it officially support Linux.
I use Linux as I used to use windows before: I enjoy the OS, I use it for my everyday tasks but I am neither deep enough involved in the OS nor ionterested inb getting into it to hardcore digg into every single issue.

And now I'm enjoying this wonderfull game!
Works fine with system libs.

I would like to share a short update on the current status of the development with you.
We are heading towards the next patch for Linux which will include an engine update to Unreal 4.17 and a fix for mouse input on Linux. Besides this there are some game play related fixes like fixes for the collisions for station turrets, the ancient warden teleportation, an issue with operating the gunship turret after cutscene playback, some problems with the menu navigation and some more.
Currently we are still struggling with a technical issue that breaks the loading of the engine plug-ins but is effective only in the shipping configuration of the game. This makes the debugging a bit more cumbersome than usual but also should be hopefully the last barrier for the patch to arrive.
Looking forward to finally seeing the SteamOS icon on the store page eventually :)
Thank you! Can't wait.
Looking forward to getting rid of my dodgey mousewarp script :D
Either way, nice work devs!
