What kind of Hero do you play?
First of all this a great game, I first played this with my brother when Order of dawn was released. So if you are thinking of buying it, do it. it´s alot of game for the money.

I play Light combatarts, Light blades + Lightarmor the first levels and try to get a good pair of swords to dual wield.
Alt. a sword with a light axe. Never liked daggers.

Then while I level I place some points in Heavy combat arts to get Warcry so I can use both Berserk and Warcry as needed.
Sometimes I also add points in Shield so I can use a good shield if I found one I liked during the game you never know when some extra defence might be handy.

As for the RPG part I use my own moral compass.... Its special.

I go heavy weapons and armor. I got my guy so strong I could do whole maps with just him.

I've been playing Spellforce since the day of its release, and now that I look back, I only played mage characters :) My first playthrough was with a pure Necromancer, which was enjoyable, but the class itself doesn't suit my style of play since it barely has any Area of effect spells.

Then I switched to pure Elementalist, pumped constitution a bit and finished the original game and both addons solo, occasionally summoning heroes to aid me. The best part was wiping out enemy armies with spells like Blizzard. The worst - destroying enemy buildings with my feeble Magic Sphere afterwards X_x

Now I'm attempting to do a Heavy Warrior/Healer solo run. So far so good, it's actually much easier than Elementalist at the start, and damage is over the roof. Although occasionally I do run into problems when fighting high-level enemy mages, especially the ones with vampirism.

Then I'm going to try a similar hybrid, but with Light Warrior instead, to determine which one is better for solo-runs.

Never tried an Illusionist, although people say he's the most fun of all the mages. Anyone beat the game with one?

My Phoenix Hero - Archer with Light armor and blades.
Shadow Hero - "Tank" - Heavy Armor, Blunt weapon, Heavy blades and Shields

Always been an archer! With some healing magic sometimes, other times a blade for up close and personal.

Played The Order of Dawn and Shadow of the Phoenix with my full mentalist, illusion included, and ecountered only few problems.
In many cases you have to find alternative ways of solving battle situations, especially when you are alone because of the limited damage spells and their dependency on your enemy's intelligence...
But the huge variety on spells in illusion compensates the low damage pretty well. Just for example to summon a dozen of mirror images of the sorcerer that deal no physical damage but adopt all your weapon effects like lifeleach or manaburn etc. Additional to that you have access to invisibility, aoe hypnosis, control over your enemy's units and many more.
All in all mentalists are extremly powerful in manipulating your enemies and easily take control over whole armies that begin to fight themselves instead of you ;)

Never tried Mentalists, other then my support heroes and mainly made them use their staff just to help with the damage.
From the way Xargo90 describes it I think I need to try that class out.

Xarga90, thanks for sharing your impressions, that sounds like a unique and interesting playstyle :) Now I'll just have to try it out. And yeah, I see I wrote "Illusionist" when I meant "Mentalist", of course. My memory played a trick on me :)

That thing with weapon effects sounds especially delightful, I never relied on them with any other class, but with Mentalist it might just work. Thanks for pointing it out!

Necromancer archer, to summon some cannonfodder while staying behind and taking out enemies without any danger.

I kinda go for the "ranger" style.

so she gots :
Light combat
-light armor
-light blades
white magic

I did try a more "pure" version of this build :

Light combat
-light armor
white magic

but it just not worked as good as the earlier build so I dropped it.

Always magician (finished the game 8 time in the past , i do it again for the pehoenix now)

various between each game but always magic , like fire/ice or black magic or white + black and at the moment its white magic+ice (thise one for continue in the order of phoenix)

Heavy weapons and armor. With these skills more easily through the game without other rune warriors :)

i always get stuck haha, the furthest i got was just past where the good circle mage dies, then the next map i was just wiped out, gets really difficult really quick, however i usually play an elementalist mage with some light combat thrown in just for that little extra melee ability

If you find a map to hard you can leave it and return again. If need be you can do this several times to launch attacks with all you got and try to destroy enemy buildings. They dont regenerate. So slowly you will beat down their numbers.
