My 2 issues with Battleborn.
New to this game.

I really liked this game. And I think I am gonna continue playing it.

The real two issues for me as a general hero-based online PvP game are:

- the matchmaking is way too long. Yeah, I know, the playerbase is way too low but why do you restrict below 19 lvl and above 19 lvls. This alone hurts matchmaking a lot. It should be combined and you should prioritize new players with new players or similar skill level guys and if it fails to find such guys, enlarge the parameter a bit further until it finds players. Waiting it a queue up to 7-10 minutes is no fun tbh :(

- the developers should really get rid of "Free Trial" mark. The game is free-to-play, you can farm characters, unlock them and play them. It's normal for such games. Look at similar games: HOTS, LoL, Smite, Paladins. But you offer a special edition which unlocks all characters at once and adds some stuff like PvE. If people are into PvE storyline missions, then yeah, they will buy that part. Other games have their own packs which give you some characters or all of them and they might apply bonuses. Srsly, "free trial" means you are to play up to certain level or u have certain hours and then the game is locked entirely until you unlock it. It's better with WoW where you are levelling up to 20 lvl for free but after that you must buy a game to level further and progress further. The way how PvP works now is no way a "trial" and I believe that word alone scares even more players away because they think the game is not that free-to-play than it might to seem for them while it's actually a free-to-play...

I call bs unless you're lvl 20 or higher and happen to play specifically on US peak hours...

I'll tell you why they restrict matchmaking for low levels. It used to be main matchmaking for all, and new players got matched vs full premades of max level veterans, which caused a lot of new players to drop the game very fast due to frustration. They decided to gate new players from that matchmaking until they learn the game a bit. I'm not sure it's a good decision, but it is what it is and at the very least it had a valid reason to it.

It would be better if they called the free trial version of the game the free "edition". Calling it free to play would also cause people to complain. Free to play implies being able to experience everything the game offers without paying, which you can't. The base stroy missions are behind a pay wall and only the operation DLCs can be bought both upfront and with in game currency.

I mean if the goal is to not make people feel "mislead",..

I don't know if they changed this but when the game first came out match making was based on what your steam download region is. I had to change mine from Canada-Vancover to USA-LA and my que times went from being 7-10 mins to just 1 minute que's.

It's still like this and that's why they should get rid of the regional stances and just throw everyone in the same queue. There are not enough people playing it overall and not being able to find matches without jumping through some hoops is dumb and will make them loose a lot of players!

Hey Raptoriuzz! Welcome to Battleborn. :)

On matchmaking - I'm watching that closely. Times should be averaging about 2-3 minutes on PC right now for all queues but Versus Draft. We want these to be as low as possible, of course. Hopefully, more trial payers coming in will help, too.

For the name of the "Free Trial" - yeah, I agree with you. Gearbox development definitely wanted it to be called something less confusing. To a degree, there's always a bureaucracy you have to work through with "how things have been done before". We're not quite a pure F2P game (you have to upgrade to get Story missions), but in most other aspects, we're now F2P. We'd actually prefer to be categorized there (and are still pushing to make that happen on all platforms), but it comes with the caveat that some people will then call us "liars" becuse not all of our game is purely F2P.

For now, I would encourage you to enjoy it as it is, and if you know others you think would enjoy the unlimited free multiplayer here, please invite them! Sometimes, communities are stronger than marketing, and as a dev with little control over the marketing, I am certainly hoping that will be true in this case.

Thanks again!

Our matchmaking doesn't lock you into regions. It does start with your set region of preference, which can often make matches faster if you set it to a more populated region. But we do eventually toss out your region preference and look for a match "somewhere".

Ok, that's nice to hear thanks for taking the time to address the comunity's issues!

Thanks for the answer.

Yeah, the answer around "Free Trial" explains why it was labelled like that.

Will continue enjoying the game and hope it lasts long enough ;)

I've never seen it working like that. In order to find a match I have to calculate which region has a prime time at that moment and change my steam download region to it. Otherwise it's a ghost town, you can sit in matchmaking for ages.

Yeah what they should do though is check for your preferred regions how many eligable players are playing and if it is is below a set number it shouldn't even use that for matchmaking. Otherwise you will always lose some time before it decides to widen the match criteria.

And I hope they succeed in pressing through and put this one in the f2p category. A good way to do that perhaps is to rebrand the full game upgrade to a story DLC. Which it basicly is and that would clear up a lot of confusion as well.

But even with all that I still think the damage of the bad launch the almost non existing marketing has taken it's toll and all the wrong comparisons to Overwatch aren't going away either and will keep hurting the playerbase untill they aggressively take a step up with their marketing, which I don't see happening if they can't even get the F2P category pushed through.

player peak is far to low, is other issue you having, 260 to 359 isn't that great, Gearbox truly f'd this game, it had potiential but they destroyed it.
