The HQ is actually in a very good spot, as it is in close proximity to all 3 races, and there are abundant resources. In my game, there are 0 pirate, Xenon or Kha'ak issues there, its a very, very peaceful location.
Honestly, i didnt do much with it early on, as the opportunities to make money were somewhere else, and money should also be invested somewhere else, but i did set up some spacefuel, spaceweed and maja dust production there as i could afford it. All that has been scrapped, and it will become another mega shipyard.
Now, one of the great things about stations, is that you can disassemble everything, rebuild it some other way or even rebuild different things - the cost of the station goes into the building materials, which are generic, and the time it takes, of course. When you disassemble station modules, the components simply go back into the build storage, at what seems to be a 0 loss (i may be wrong there tho). So, you can build whatever you want there to start with, and redo/expand it later, you will not lose your initial investment.
That said, i recommend not bothering trying to move it somewhere else. Really no reason to. Its just a rock with a ring around it that produces energy cells. If you also think the money is somewhere else, build somewhere else, and maybe later on, you decide to turn the HQ into a mega shipyard.
What i would like to see, however, is an option to buy the system from the teladi, and claim it as my own.
Traditionally, in many X games I was siding with Argon so I'd like to get my Headquarters in one of their sectors one day.
Otherwise, I agree, Grand Exchange I is a good location commercially and very peaceful too.
