add the following line to the Dungeon Siege 2 properties -> "Set Launch Options" box:

fullscreen=false

there are a ton of other options, available on https://support.microsoft.com/kb/903677

I didn't get my max possible resolution 1920x1080 working. it gave some weird error message. I didn't put too much time into figuring it out. I did get 1400x900 to work with
fullscreen=false height=900 width=1400

a battery meter also showed up next to the map. don't remember ever seeing that before.

Parameter Description dpnsvr=false If you receive a black screen while you try to join or to host a multiplayer session of Dungeon Siege II, this parameter may resolve the issue. fpslog=true Records frames-per-second information and outputs the information to the Fps.log file in the Dungeon Siege 2 folder. nosound=true Turns off all sounds. This includes music. nointro=true Skips the Microsoft and GPG logo movies when the game starts. noloadintro=true Skips the game’s cinematic introduction when you start to play a single-player game. fullscreen=false Forces Dungeon Siege II to run in windowed mode. height=xxxx Forces Dungeon Siege II to run at xxxx resolution height. width=xxxx Forces Dungeon Siege II to run at xxxx resolution width. bpp=xx Forces Dungeon Siege II to run in a specific color depth, where xx can be 16 or 32. nospacecheck=true Skips the free-disk-space and available-memory checks on startup. turtle=true Turns on auto-disconnect from a multiplayer session when a computer times out, or when there is no response from a computer for a long time. By default, this feature is on. Setting the turtle=false parameter turns off auto-disconnection. Do not change this option. maxfps=xx Forces Dungeon Siege II to run at a maximum frame rate of xx. Tutorial_tips=false Disables all tutorial tips in-game. keys_path=path Specifies a location other than the \My Documents\My Games \Dungeon Siege 2 folder where the Keys game files are saved. save_path=path Specifies a location other than \My Documents\My Games \Dungeon Siege 2 folder where the Save game files are saved. shots_path=path Specifies a location other than the \My Documents\My Games \Dungeon Siege 2 folder where the Screenshots game files are saved.

Sorry for resurrecting a dead thread, but I recently started playing D2 again. I was having problems getting it to run from steam (instead, running the exe directly from a desktop shortcut worked).

But when I found this post, I was able to run it from steam again using the following launch options (some may not be necessary):

fullscreen=false height=900 width=1400 nointro=true noloadintro=true nospacecheck=true

order of chaos, where do you find those files exactly? im having this cursor issue where my cursor doesnt show and can't click anything at all and the resolution is very strange.

Upping this because it solved my issues.

Adding to this, you may be able to use DungeonSiege2.ini to declare these things.

In my case, I accidentally gave height=1920 width=1080 trying to test it. It loaded fine, and it looked mostly fine--in the world, it appeared to be the right aspect ratio, but obviously I was missing like half the screen. I couldn't move the window or anything, and I couldn't figure out the fix. After I closed the game with alt-F4, I changed the parameters. When I loaded up the game, the window was off the screen, and I couldn't figure out how to get it back in the field. (I know it was off the screen because when I minimized and restored, it looked like it was off the screen entirely, but I could see it expand.)

So then I found DungeonSiege2.ini residing at c:%homepath%\Documents\My Games\Dungeon Siege 2\. It seems to have the same parameters and all. In this case, the x and y values were what threw it offworld. Changing these could have saved me the time of deleting and reinstalling the game. Furthermore, if I hadn't discovered this, the ini file would still have screwed everything up.

Finally, I recommend going with width=1910 height=1000. It does work.

Do you mean the properties for the executable? Because mine doesn't have the set launch options box. What properties exactly do you mean?

Forget the launch options if you're not getting it. Go straight for the ini file. In the previous response I outlined where it is found. Once you have it open, you can specify what height and width and any other parameters that you might otherwise set with the command line.

Hi. Can anyone help? Been trying to run this game on my laptop. Its max resolution is only 1366x768 so fullscreen=false in launch does not work? Anyone have any suggestions
I have the game in windowed mode, but is there any way how to lock the mouse to the window? I'm tired of it pulliing up my task bar

Does anyone have a fix for the game freezing right after the window opens on the black screen with the dots on the bottom left corner? I could play fine a few weeks ago and suddenly its no longer working after not changing anything.

bumping thread as it fixed most my issues.

Only problem I have now is that whatever size I set in width/height doesn't do anything.
Only fix I have for this is to right click the top bar on the program border (the same bar that has minimize and close icons) and select size, I then drag to desire size.
It doesn't however fix the menu size to the new window size, but the gameplay graphics does change to suit the expand program window

it does fix my issue, window size can be adjusted full just fine, right click and maximize. it takes care of my problem.
