I don't know if this exactly mirrors the PS1 controller layout, but I set this up for myself and it works logically I find.
It works, but not completely. The R2 and L2 triggers don't work and neither does the D-Pad. Same issue that FF7 has. So if we are already creating a profile in order to compensate those buttons, we may as well disable controller support and create an entire profile based on the keyboard keys. By default the controller buttons are completely wrong anyways.
Also, I use a mouse profile for the launcher and for the "warning screen". This allows me to play in Big Picture without needing to use the mouse at all. I have both profiles set as "auto profiles" to automatically activate when the launcher opens, and when the game opens.
Example:
Warning window opens - Launch Mouse profile
Launcher opens - Mouse profile is still in use
Game opens - Use FF8 controller profile
Steam Big Picture opens (after game is closed) - Use No controls profile
I use this for Ubisoft's U-play as well, etc.
@Brandon Thanks for the pic, I may use that as a base and configure it further.
I got controller compagnion on steam, but i dont unterstand how to set up controls with the xbox gamepad ???
There is this Launcher who does nothing in configuration.
Pad is okay and working with other games ?
Thanks in advance.
Also I suggest you apply the controller pad mod http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15905.0
So that you don't have to see the ugly button_1-10 ever again.
