PlayStation to PC Converted Music
After two long weeks I have finally converted the audio directly from the PS1 game's format to DirectMusic format. The files will work under the default music engine so all you need to do is drag them into the Data\Music\dmusic folder and replace the older files. No program or library needed. Also I fixed the looping segments to go infinitely rather than 32768 times... not that anyone would've actually waited that long to hear them stop.

Here is a demo showcasing the converted music:

Music Files
Current Version - 8.18.14
Download link: click here[www.dropbox.com]

Instructions
1. Navigate to your \Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VIII\Data\Music\dmusic\ folder.
2. Replace ALL (.sgt & .dls) files in this folder with the new files from the link above.

If you encounter any issues or errors please let me know so I can fix them right away.

Also, if you have Final Fantasy IV on steam check out my SNES soundtrack mod here

Thank you very much, but as I said, this is not official repair, I will not download, I will continue to strive for official repair of the music problem. Just imagine, two years later, when I want to play this game again, your download link may have expired, and I cannot contact you, what shall I do then? If the official repairs the above problem, everything will be fine.

Can you please stop. You have said that about 10 times on different threads and honestly I don't care about your opinion. Rather than continue to tell me something that I can do nothing about why don't you spend your time writing email to Square Enix?

I think i read somewhere the sound effects are sub-par too. Although not nearly as important as the music does this fix that as well? By the way great work can't wait to try it out!

Why is everyone so obsessed about the music. It's midi. It doesn't even sound bad at all. Get over it.
Hobson Aug 19, 2014 @ 4:24pm
It ruins the entire mood of the game... Sound is everything way more important than graphics.

I never heard anything about this other than Quetzalcoatl using the Phoenix sound which IIRC is hard coded and can't be fixed.

Ah ok then definately won't worry about that thanks again for the great work it's very appreciated

Great job OP.

I don't think Square is ever going to fix this game, which is kind of sad. Thanks for stepping up and fixing it yourself.

Thanks for all your efforts!! Now I don't have to go download some emulator and play it outside of steam for the better sound ^o^
