It is old... I saw a jump from around 50-70fps to 90-110... That's pretty insane, especially given newer CPUs haven't exactly gone leaps and bounds over previous generations.
Before trying that game, I've successfully played every PS2 game I wanted, but that one in particular just didn't wanted to run more that 4fps. Turns out, that game -- like a few others of that platform -- were originally designed to rely more on cpu than gpu, and they were like that because the gpu was just not enough for the result devs were trying to achieve. Conclusion, no matter how hi-end rig you pc is , you just can't play that game.
So, being this game a PC port from xbox, and xbox cpu not having that much stuff to do as a pc cpu...
Again, just saying. I know emulation is an entirely different situation, but...
I never checked the percentage it was being used at, I only OC'd the CPU for fun quite frankly... I hadn't intended for this to happen; I never figured the CPU could possibly be a bottleneck. But as I said, I was at stock settings (3.3Ghz I believe) and just changed the multipler to 42 on my BIOS, and lo and behold, insane FPS gain.
Yeah it seems like this might rely on the CPU more than one expects. The only other explanation is that my CPU has been a bottleneck for a while and I never realized it, but a 50% gain is a little insane...
Use MSI Afterburner to monitor it
Before OC'ing my CPU, i was getting 50-70fps. After OC'ing I am getting 90-110.
I just went in game to check it out (used vanilla task manager). It fluctuates between 70-80% I believe. Does that give any information?
I noticed it in expedition mode. My framerate before OCing the CPU was like I had said earlier, 50-70, sometimes 80, whatever around there. Then I OC'd it, and went back to the same level (no settings changed) and saw a huge FPS increase and was surprised.
Why is everybody fussing about DX12? For the reason you stated? Or is it typical internet flaming/trolling?
That's the way I see it, there may be other reasons but that's my understanding of it
