I'm new to CIV 3
I just bought this game a few hours ago and I have some questions.

First off, why do the cities just keep on making and making more warriors/archers? Can a do something so they only create characters when I want them to?

Why do I always lose money? Everytime I play I start losing money about 10 minutes in.

what i do:
set the city govenor to never for offensive and defensive troops.

It will then concentrate on buildings, if there are none to build it will auto set to wealth.

you can select in preferences in game options, that the city will ask after a construction is finished for new orders. If you need help I can give you a hint or two just add me on steam :) . I still play it and I love it.
For money, is a tricky thing and depends on your resources, your civilization, and so on.
I usually for startes make granary to speed up the growth of people, and then learn how to make marketplaces to make up 50% more money from taxes. Take care of corruption in the long run, learn economics(useful as wealth is given more per shield (2/1 instead of 4/1)). Learn banks and later on corporations.
As well very important keep your people happy, and they will less likely go into corruption. If they make the "blabla" day, they are even less likely to be in corruption.
Keep a good use of goverments, and take care of the Units amount.
A good way to make money is to go in research and then sell them to other countries. In later game they can provide you a huge income.
