Listen Servers - General Feedback
Please reply to this topic to discuss any issues with the current state of multiplayer running through Listen Servers. If possible, please include your Ping value (you can see this on the leaderboard by pressing Tab in game) if you were not the host player.

  • Do you feel the game is playable?
  • Is your performance badly affected when a certain amount of players join the game?
  • Are you seeing lots of "rubberbanding" of other characters?
  • Can you hit other players ok?
  • Could you interact with objects ok throughout the game?

Any other feedback is also appreciated!

I think it would be a good idea to release all future builds in the main branch. There are not enough players to fragment everyone into seperate branches. Im able to host a listen server alright but I doubt many people even know about the test branch.

We email everyone that signed up for closed testing when we release something to the test branch.

Some stuff can go directly to the main branch but anything that could potentially disrupt play needs to go through the test branch first (particularly testing networking, etc).

No listen servers appear
I'm running the external closed version of the game and I've been checking to see if there are any listen servers up for the past 12+ hours, I tried last night around midnight, today at 10AM, and today at 5PM... I'm not sure if there really aren't any servers up or if there's something I'm not doing. I also tried running my own listen server for about 10 minutes at a time but of course no one joined. I would be thankful for any answers regarding this.

I'm really upset that I spent $15 on a game that doesn't seem to work, and it looks like other people have this issue with no solution...:steamfacepalm:

update: just played on a listen server with a couple BG guys for a minute... glad to see that the functionality of the online multiplayer is working on my end. to anyone else experiencing this problem, keep trying. a few things i did, which i'm not sure had anything to do with me finally being able to see a server, is i forwarded the designated ports and i uninstalled/reinstalled the game.

Hi FOREEALTHO,

Glad to see you in the game earlier! :)

We put that server up on the back of your post to double check everything was working.

This is the kind of thing we want to test on the External Beta version of the game - to catch these kinds of problems!

The thing about listen servers is that you have to open the correct ports on your router (and/or firewall) to allow steam and the game to see your server. By default these are TCP/UDP 7776 through to 7778 and UDP 443.

Once you've opened the ports and ran the game in Steam you can check that this is working by checking the Steam Server Browser for Remasted games (in the Steam Client menu 'View->Servers'), change the filters and pick 'The Ship: Remasted' from the game list.

If you see your game on the list then you are good to go. If you don't - close the game and keep tweaking until you see your game in the list.

Take it easy,
Jas

Will this be fixed in the future? Because I have friends who know nothing about opening ports.

Yes, there'll be other methods of connecting - this is just a step towards that.

I agree with Wonald - at least for me I haven't been able to join a game because there's nobody playing. There's one Listen server available with 8 bots and 0 humans, when I try to join it loads for a few seconds, the screen blinks, and it sends me to the main menu. Who knows.

I will host a dedicated server the moment they become available. Players will begin to come aboard once there are actually some games to join, even if they are largely filled with bots.
