Structural Integrity?
So I was building a base with a fairly long concrete roof. I went up top to mount a cannon, and much to my surprise (and cheers of delight!)...the roof collapsed!

Is structural integrity a thing?

If so, is there some way to calculate the load stress? Or is it trial and error? I mean, certainly in the real world I would never attempt to mount a metal gun the size of a bus on a concrete roof, but I dont know if there is a way to calculate this exactly.

Thanks!

I did later put a support column under it, which made it a workable arrangment. Tahe that, drones!

Hold "N" and click "structural integrity ". It's a real time saver

Concrete is about the worst building material for large bases. I just skip to steel and save the concrete for area denial tasks.

i build from concrete alot ,it should carry weight even of flak cannons if u have full block layer under turret, trouble start when u change block to thin "wall" and try place gun on it ,i think just sentry turrets can stand on it then.concrete is cheap and available from very start later its better to do just foundation from concrete thats right,i dunno if there is any method about calculate how much weight certain blocks can carry though

Thanks, I will try the N thing.

6x6 block gap then supports, for concrete, though if you want platform struts not even 3 x3 will support guns if built with concrete

SI depends on the gravity on a planet too. Some blocks to not count when calculating SI, but the SI mode quickly lets you see what is going on.... however there are quiry ways around the SI pain that involve rotating a build - which is not something peole can do on a multiplayer, but does make very wide spans possible.

Please can this damn SI be nerfed down a lot? It is ridiculously restricting. Seriously: Real life buildings are capable of far more than this SI lets you do... basebuilding has indeed become some sort of boring

When placing blocks, I run the concrete beam 11 blocks horizontally before placing a support under the 11th block. I have had success at building the largest sized hangar doors in a double door configuration, so my SVs can launch through the roof of my base.

It sure is frustrating when your base collapses and takes out your factory & all your resources with it.
