before the lungfishopolis level the camp becomes night. I don't find it much fun to explore at night so I was just wondering if it turns to day later in the game or am I just forced to play at night?

that means yo can't set i back to day

It is not reversible unless you you had a save point before night time. Things only become night time when you find out about the plot. Most of the daytime is used up by talking to the camp kids.
