Eco
What is the potential for greifing in this game?
Friendly fire, looting, etc? Or is this type of mechanic disabled so as not to gimp yourselves towards the end goal?

this is the game with the most griefing potential i've ever seen
Thanks for the reply, can you elaborate any further? Interested to see if this game will scratch my itch....
Basically there is a lot of potential to grief, but there are ways to prevent almost all of them.
Like you could join a server, dig a big hole at spawn point, claim the land and everyone joining won't be able to get out the hole. Clever servers already protected the spawn area with claimed land.
Same thing with how much land a griefer can claim. A lot servers have public chests where everyone can take the skillscrolls (=get more claim flags) which can potentially be abused to get a lot claims right after spawn and then claim random spots all over the world. Clever servers sell them at shops for a currency new players don't have after spawning. Or even enforce a tax on claiming by law so new players can't claim right after join.

But best antigrief solution is anyway having admins online most of the time that also keep an eye on new players and what they do after joining.

We had a couple of people trying to grief, but none had a chance to do real harm yet.
in a game where the goal is to maintain the eco stystem the easiest way to grief ist just that, ♥♥♥♥ up the eco system. 1 night with a friend and u can irrepairably damage the system by cutting down most of the forest. if u want to invest little more time, get tailings and pollute ur way through the map

You can't do that if a server has laws protecting the environment
so? does that in any way minimize the potential for griefing? not every server hast the time and will to think of ways to get griefed and how to prevent this

As i said already, there are ways to prevent every kind of griefing with laws / currency / claims.
If a server admin "does not have the time or will" he should probably not host one. There's anway too much empty servers yet

lmao

why dont these people just use a spade/axe to get out ???

I',m just guessing but I don't think you can dig on claimed land unless that person gives permission.
230 hours in and havnt met griefers yet, even got about 150 pre steam too and still no griefing
Griefing to the point of it being notizable don´t work in Eco, since there are no unprotected official Servers.

There are ocasionally griefers but probably it's more likely to meet on them on high population servers ;)
Overall i would say it's just not the kind of game attracting them

Yes you can do this one night with a friend and next morning the admin just load the backup from the evening before. Maybe you know that eco makes automatically backups. So you and your friend spend all your time for nothing.
the question was about the potential of griefing, not how to prevent it, u guys do get that?
