Only first person, having third person or why not neither?
I`ve known tihs game since it`s first announces to the world but I was never really interested in it( only because I knew my PC is trash and I won`t be able to run it when it`s relased). But recently it got my attention and I got in touch with it and it`s pretty promising I see the studio is working hard and want it to be perfect. I also saw there is a bit of war going on about should there be or not be a third person view. I personaly think a third person view will ruin the realistic experience but it`s a real shame not to be able to see your beautiful armor that took hours to be made. So what`s the solution? Why don`t you make a photo mode where you can take a picture of yourself riding with your shining armor towards the sunset. I know it`s a bit late for new things to be added but consider adding it to the sequel.

Immersion. They made animations for first person view, which might look unpolished for third person view. You can see your character during dialogue, especially cutscenes where he will not wear armor on head, furthermore, you can look down and see your front body.

How are you going to aim the bow in third person? Some kind of crosshair would be needed, my guess is devs do not want that. What about when you put your visor down in third person?

There is no reticle for bows.

I know it's more popular to show up on ppls' threads and shoot their ideas down, say why something can't be done, etc., but ... :P

Personally, I prefer 1st-person, and I tend to use it almost exclusively, in games that provide both, but I also like the ability to pop out to 3rd person for screenshots or to see what my character looks like or whatever.

It looks like these devs worked real hard on this so maybe they wouldn't mind working a bit harder to add what would surely be a popular and highly requested feature, in the long run, if the game plays as well as it looks.

@savvym specifically regarding the comment on the animations... Let me tell you about my life 10 minutes ago, before I had ever heard of this game:

I was browsing my steam queue and the trailer for this game game up. Immediate impression was that this was another "labor-of-love" Medieval period game, i.e. something that's cool for people who are into that era, but not AAA production by any means.

But, within literally one second of the gameplay footage beginning -- a little gesture made by the guy's shoulders, as he is shown from the side holding the sword -- I could see that extra attention had been paid to the animation, either through quality motion capture, or hand-tweaking, to make it look relatively realistic .. human. (GJ!)

The anims caught my eye. Long enough for me to note that the character facial modeling was pretty good, too. Which held my attention long enough for me to realize how much actual in-game footage I was being shown without seeing any blatant particle effects or hud, etc. Clearly they are going for something a little different here.

I digress but my ultimate point is that animations that "look" good in 1st person -- because they in fact, are good -- are probably going to look just fine in 3rd person too. I understand there may be exceptions to this when it comes to viewmodel but by and large my point should apply: good is gonna look good.

My secondary point being: this seems to be a game that wants to stand out and show off the devs' hard work, so who are we to put a limit on that, if they want to work harder on their game to try and make it more perfect? ;)

Erm, what do you mean by this comment? Yes my m8, I know there is no crosshair for bow in this game, so my concern is how do you aim the bow in third person without crosshair?

No worries there. There immersion, the combat, the mini games and more are reasons why we decided to make it 1st person only.

Watch the latest gameplay video by Warhorse, they exactly show how it looks when you shoot a bow. There is no third person. You started about it.

Animations were specifically created to look polished in third person. It means that everything you see from player's head seems normal but if you look from NPCs' perspective animations of Henry would be broken, not flowing between each other, or his hands and legs weirdly crooked. Everything else probably already looks alright in third person.

At least I'll save 50 euros if i don't buy this game that make me sick with its first person view ...
I saw the horse riding at first person less than one minute and i was sick ...

thank you to announce no 3rd person view ^^

more like the reason is you didn't want to spend extra time doing work for third person view..
every other major RPG game has third person..

many people choose third person even in games that has both options, ie Skyrim, and Witcher is 3rd person only last i remember.

Pc gamers in general play in first person. Peoples coming from the console world prefer 3rd person (usually) because they have been forced into it.

I much prefer first person since it is more immersive. A toggle to see your character in order to take a screenshot ( Everything looks so amazing in-game, it will be screenshot festival!) would be appreciated, but not required.

When it comes down to motion sickness, you can hardly be more affected than I am ;)

There are many games that takes this into account and allow gamers to disable "Head bobbing". I have yet to see if it is an option here.

Of course, I am not against 3rd person either, to each his own choices. But saying they didn't implement it because they are lazy or some such, that's just disrespectful and unwarranted.

It looks like they've put a lot of love and effort into this game and it is too early to judge it so harsly without first giving it a try.

I, for one, am awaiting February 13th impatiently!

most of my pc gamers prefer 3rd person, including me.

Since this is just a single player game then third person might be helpful in promoting the game as players could take cool screen shots, or at least a camera mode like Elite Dangerous which lets you view your ship from many angles but is actually useless to fight in anything other than first person.

Games like PUBG are ruined by third person ledge campers and it slows the pace of the game. Skill gets lost in favour of luck and camping. I only play first person servers and the pace is so much quicker.
