He's not that great. Just mopped the floor with him using a lvl 1 party ;)
Only Qualle and Ozma left
https://youtu.be/Bjm2XRA7Ngo
Alas I have gotten up to Zorn and Thorn, and they killed two party members (Steiner and Zidane, IIRC) while at the same time affecting them with zombie status. I didn't think it was possible to do both.
I am unable to revive them due to the status or cure the zombie status, I do not have magic tags.
Beatrix wipes the floor with me with 2 party members.
Any ideas? I think I am stuck and will need to somehow go back and beat Zorn and Thorn without letting them hit me with the light flare attack (quite a ways back to my last save...)
Instead I downloaded Hades Workshop and compiled the mod (using the .hws file) myself.
When I did that this bug was gone.
It has something to do with the version of the game you're handed by steam. Appearantly not everybody gets exactly the same version, so some ppl have this problem, some don't (If you don't, you have the same version as Tirlititi). At least, that's what I think causes the bug.
To compile it yourself do the following:
Revert your original files, so your game is in vanilla.
Open FFIX_Launcher.exe with Hades workshop.
Open the .hws file in the mod
Go to File, Save steam mod
Use these files to apply the mod.
Sorry, that's an oversight from me, I thought the game healed you after the battle. To be honest, though, it's pretty easy to make Zorn & Thorn completely harmless.
Which version do i need to install? (On Disc 3 right after you get the Hilda Garde)
Downloaded 4.2, 4.3 and before and after scene
(whats the difference between before & after scene couldn't find much info or an update log besides what posted here and the readme)
Why were some of the abilities on my characters unlearned???
(not the new ones but some of the original ones that are unchanged had to relearn What's That!? on Zidane plus Antibody and Auto-Regen on most my characters,
was this mod supposed to unequip all my abilities? same thing happens when i equip more abilities than magic stones and i load my save again don't remember that happening on PS1)
Also why can't Beatrix equip other swords besides Save the Queen?
thought it was mentioned she can equip Stieners swords...
(that's how you learn some of her Seiken abilities right???)
What's the optional Zidane pdata7.bin in 4.3???
(one with his abilities unaltered and one with? which ones which?)
The 4.3 readme has no info on this
i don't have to worry about the naming bug right since i'm on Disc 3 after everyones already named?
How do you recruit Beatrix?
Edit:Nevermind was going to ask why did you not detail how to recruit her unless you go to Alexandria and just talk to her (which is what you do in front of the castle)
The naming bug should not occur unless you decide to rename your party in Daguerro
You seem to be mixxing versions of this mod.
If I understand correctly you have a save from the vanilla game and want to add Beatrix.
In this case you don't need 4.2, 4.3 or before scene.
You only need the After scene.
Don't worry, even tough After scene is based on 4.2, (I think) none of the changes from 4.2->4.3 affect beatrix, so After scene is still up to date.
The difference between Before & After is if your save is from before or after the moment you first control Beatrix in the queens chamber.
If you already had that scene you use the After scene mod, otherwise you use the Before scene.
Your problems with abilities are likely also fixxed by just using a single version of the mod.
If you want to play the full version of the mod I recommend playing from the beginning of the game, since some items that are not available early on, are now available, and vice versa.
This means that using a save from vanilla makes your inventory not match up with the mod.
(makes sense i guess since she only has a few Seiken Abilities anyway)
Ya i don't plan on renaming anyone so no problem there.
Nope i am not mixing any of versions of the mod i tried 4.2 (without saving) tried equiping other swords with Beatrix thinking maybe the reason i couldn't was because i was on an older version, then noticed there was a 4.3 so installed that instead of 4.2 so i started progressing on that one.
The problem with the abilities wasn't really a problem for me,
(i relearned the few moves it made my characters forget rather quickly since they were already partly learnt)
just didn't know if that was supposed to happen so i mentioned it.
(i did however load up a disc 2 save to test out Marcus and his 2 added abilitities from Treno and the Alexandria escape and while he did have the Bandit command his 2 ability slots were blank)
So you have to start from scratch for some of these abilities and items to load properly?
Ya i thought thats what before and after scene meant just didn't know if they were addons to 4.2 and 4.3 or seperate mods, well guess i should have just went with my gut and used after scene instead of 4.3.....
(4.3 seams to be working so far from adding on disc 3 tho besides Marcus abiltites that doesn't really matter since i'm past that part anyway.)
That part with Stiener and Marcus alone is enough to make me glad i waited....
(couldn't even make it past the first battle as they are underleveled at that point and kept missing the Female Guards with attacks resulting in game over each of the few times i attempted it)
There's no way i'm starting a new save now i'm on a perfect file so far (as of disc 3 did all side quests i can do on disc 3 in preparation of using this mod to push to disc 4)
besides 2 chests i missed in Lifa Tree cause of that stupid elevator you can't go back up and i'm way above the time limit for Excalibur which doesn't matter anyway since there are alternate ways to get it now.
Not playing this mod for the added "challenge" why i waited till i could recruit Beatrix to install it haven't played FF9 since PS1 and i didn't want to get trolled more than the already broken steal system while 100% the game by making the game harder.
Now that i have most skills/equipment and stealing out of the way i am ready for the extra challenge and once i 100% FF9 then i may consider starting this more difficult mod from the start...
(when i'm not worried about stealing/completing everything and actually remember the game)
Thanks for the info.
Edit:Wait so is Beatrix useless in ipsen's Castle since she doesn't have low level weapons???
Yep had to use Climhazzard since i chose her and her attacks do almost nothing....
(good thing i had 50+ ethers i didn't use)
Sorry about that "OptionalZidane" thing. It's a tiny mod I made for someone else on the board that allows to swap Zidane out of the party. It has no relation with Alternate Fantasy whatsoever. It ended in the archive by mistake (I removed it now).
The links at the end of the OP are basically Beatrix mods, without the gameplay changes.
No need to apologise this mod is amazing.
Don't remove it i'm sure some people will want that....
(i don't right now but if i do another playthrough i will use it)
Just add it to the readme along with maybe some other info clarifying versions of the mod and other info.
Some more info in the readme would go a long way,
(4.3 literally just has install instructions)
that's what i would say is most lacking about this mod besides Beatrix can't equip a low level sword even tho Garnet can equip 2 low level weapons including the Dagger now for ipsen Castle....
So before and after scene are just the Beatrix mod not including the Alternate Fantasy tweaks?
Should i remove 4.3 and just use after scene even tho i saved and progressed since i put in 4.3 on disc 3 instead of after scene????
(that shouldn't mess up my skills/save file in any way?)
(i'm Disc 4 now and don't seem to be having problems so far besides having to relearn some moves adding 4.3 mid game)
Thanks again
Switching back and forth will give you an advantage inventory-wise tough.
Some items that are available on disc 4 in vanilla aren't in AF & vice versa.
EDIT 1: Indeed, Beatrix is useless in Ipsen if you rely on physical attacks. White magic & Seiken still do normal damage, so if she has MP to spare you can just climmhazard everything to death or something like that.
EDIT 2: What else would need to be in the readme besides instructions for installation?
In general, if you apply a mod, you start a new game with said mod.
If you look a bit in this thread you know that in that case you only need either 4.3 or before scene.
If you do decide to switch to a mod half-way-through, then you should only consider Before & After scene, again, depending on your progress.
why i waited to install this mod once my my charcaters were leveled up and ready skillwise too.
Didn't have that much trouble with that
(what gave me trouble was enemies cheaply casting death on my entire party or having to face higher level enemies when my charcaters were still low level due to story segments with incomplete parties when all their attacks missed with no healing magic to heal like the Steiner and Marcus segment i went back and tested)
Ya luckily i had a bunch of unused ethers as i mentioned before and just used Climhazzard as that's all she has available at that point...
You're kidding right? This aint no simple tweak or mod theres plenty to list with all that was added.
(like first how the before and after were stand alones without AF which i missed/forgot why i installed 4.3 first thinking it might not have to be installed on a fresh file)
All the tweaked steals and item swaps rendering my FF9 strategy guide useless....
(aka the steal and incomplete Bestiary guide, i know it was mentioned he wanted you to figure this stuff out for yourself but still a lot to notice if you haven't played the game recently or at all)
All the move tweaks were listed but not passive ability tweaks plus there are hidden dialogues.
(most characters have half MP now Beatrix abilities are different between AF and the stand alone Beatrix mod one she has +20% HP and MP other one she only has +10% for both)
Beatrix usable swords aren't listed (which made me think she could use most if not all of them),
Quina can equip the Trident plus has to learn some Blue Magic from weapons instead of enemies and more i'm sure i missed as i haven't played FF 9 in a long time....
(yet another reason i opted to play vanilla first besides not wanting to deal with the added difficulty while going for 100% and when i barely remembered the game compared to FF7 and 8)
So some abilities require more AP in AF? (why they were unlearnt partially i guess?)
Also why was my Beatrix only level 23 when i recruited her when everyone was level 40-50?
(was that her level last time you use her in Alexandria?)
Edit: ah so before and after scene stand alone mod Beatrix can equipe a lot of Steiners Weapons just not in AF 4.3
(yet another thing that could be listed in a changelog so people can choose accordingly,
i would have installed After Scene first just based on that if it were listed)
Just like the boosters reading the readme could be optional or it could be put into a seperate changelog.... (don't have time to fully test 3 different versions including vanilla)
Speaking of which does this disable the boosters?
Only fastforward works when i noticed why was no encounter disabled if so???
(that one can actually be usefull)
