FAQ and settling a few matters.
Hello Everyone.

Here is a FAQ file with IRFaceRig related answers: https://facerig.com/ir/img/ir-faq2.pdf

Since there have been some inflammatory threads posted, will try to specifically address those kind of concerns, but without the internet troll filter :

1. Yes, IRFaceRig is free to download and yes regular FaceRig does cost money, but IRFaceRig requires you to own a hardware sensor that costs more than the base version of FaceRig, and a specific version of CPU. It also has less avatars in the default line-up than FaceRig does. Rest assured, paid FaceRig users are not at a disadvantage and nor are the RealSense users. Please take a look at the program features, you will see they are aimed at different markets . IRFaceRig is an easy to use free program for those who have already invested in specific new hardware. IRFaceRig does not support complicated operations such as importing custom avatars, nor does it have a Steam Workshop. Many more complicated features from the FaceRig's advanced interface do not currently exist in IRFaceRig. Its existence does not create any disadvantage for regular FaceRig users.

2. IRFaceRig uses exclusively the Intel RealSense camera sensor that can track puffed cheeks and tongue out which the regular FaceRig right now cannot do YET. BUT regular FaceRig will also get support for the RealSense sensor in a few weeks, absolutely for free in addition to support for other sensors as well. So if you do have a RealSense device, you will be able to use with both programs in a few weeks.

3. The Steam version of IRFacerig is strictly home use non profit only for now. Strictly home use, non profit, no cuts no butts no coconuts.

Can you confirm that all of the avatars available for IRFaceRig are also available for the regular, paid FaceRig? If not, will they become available? If so, when and for what price (if priced differently)?

Thanks.

The free IRFacerig has 20 free avatars in its starting line-up, plus the Team Fortress 2 cast.
The regular, paid FaceRig does cost money, but has almost double that amount in its starting line-up (not to mention the extra features).
Right now all the avatars from IRFaceRig are also available in regular FaceRig.

There may be avatars that are exclusive to one and not de other in the future, depending on various licensing deals.

There are at least 10 3d avatars, and about 100 2D avatars that can be found only in regular FaceRig, right now and not in IRFaceRig.

Right now we know of one avatar that will be built specifically for IRFacerig version as part of a RealSense creative contest ( an avatar designed by the contest winner), that may remain exclusive to IRFaceRig.

I'm more confused by the fact that it requires 5th gen intel CPU. The only reason I could see this being the case is for the hd5500 iGPU but even that is barely an upgrade with no new listed features over the hd4000 found in 3rd gen i series CPUs. Many of which are far more powerful than the 5200u you list as requirement.

Maybe that's because intel RS is currently only available built into laptop and tablet devices with 5th gen intel CPUs built in, I suppose.

The face tracking SDK used by IRFaceRig is the Intel RealSense SDK, built by Intel. Only Intel representatives can offer more insight on why the minimal requirements for the SDK are this way and not that way.

Thanks for the clarification. Naturally, I would encourage Holotech to minimize the number of avatars that will be unavailable for the standard version, but I can understand how a few exceptions will creep in due to other companies' actions. I'm sure it would be futile to try to make them understand that it's the kind of thing that damages their image more than it helps it.

Hi

You can use IRFaceRig for your YouTube videos as long as you make less than $500 per month, if you make more than that amount you will need to contact us at info[at]facerig[dot]com for more information.

Is it possible to have the intel realsense camera and the leap motion sensor on simultaneously and have it track better or will it not work.
