Fallout 4 randomly closing

It doesn't even really 'crash.' It simply gets closed to desktop. As if you were to end the .exe via task manager. It happens quite randomly -- sometimes 5 minutes into game play sometimes 30. I have a Radeon 7870. Does anyone know of a fix? Would greatly appreciate it! It's quite difficult playing in such small intervals and constantly quick saving.

I've had this for a bit as well and I've got no clue what even causes it, sometimes I think it's when I alt tab but then It'll just crash during gameplay to prove me wrong XD. GTX 970 here so I don't think its a card specific problem. I've got all the drivers etc. as well.

Do have this problem too, but it first occured to me about five minutes ago and then another time just one minute ago, never happened before oO

If this helps at all, I have started playing in windowed mode and haven't had a single crash since.

Has everyone got their games in borderless fullscreen? Because I set it to normal fullscreen and it has worked fine so far.

I had this happen in Skyrim. It happend after i played over 100 hours or so. Same in Fallout 4. Dont know what can be done about it so if anyone know i would like to know. Really dissapointed that this problem have come back to haunt Bethesda games.

ive had this happen a handfull of times (maybe 4 or 5). make sure to use auto save frequently so this doesnt ruin your day. I use fullscreen. It annoying but i can live with it. I can remember fallout 3 giving me much more trouble than this. hard crashes with audio loops and freezes. where these are mild. just swiches to desktop, game gone. dont have to wait to relaunch.

SOMETIMES this can be due to graphics cards overheating. This game is really BAD about causing overheating. My rig is liquid-cooled and the exhaust fan from it feels like a heater.

It just happened to me as well. Its not even while playing though, its just in the main menu. wait, let me rephrase that. It skips the intro's and then the main menu 'Press any key to start the game' appears and THEN it just shuts itself down.

happened to me right after i tweaked some settings. Before it was fine for hours, and all my settings were set to ultra EXCEPT two of them which werent called ultra but were text ones ugh i cant remember their names however they were set to performance based NOT quality based and then it was working fine, however since I switched them all to quality based it started happening, however my graphics card is more than able to handle it, so maybe its the settings?

ah I put my fan to max - still crashes - conclusion: It is not heat based (in my case, anyway)

ah i have the solution
without trail and erroring its face off, if you turn these settings off it SHOULD work:
antianalising
aniostropic filtering
depth of field (set to low)
ambient occlusion
weapon debris

the rest can be set to ULTRA

tis a fix for me :)

instead of doing this download a program like HWManager and monitor heat that way there are parts of the computer that can overheat that are not being cooled by fans also if your computer is clogged with dust making the fans spin faster will not improve much
