Fallout 4 - Key mapping - Letter E and all Numpad
Hiya!

Love the game! Its awesome!

However......
The E key, and other keys that you can NOT CHANGE are very annoying!

As I understood it, the PC version is set up for console gameplay?? That's ok, but the key mapping should not be locked in PC just because of that!?

Question!
Anyone know if its possible to map the letter E to anything else? - Every time I loot a container, I HAVE to press E? Anyone know if there is a way to remap this?

Same goes for the Numpad? They are locked for Favorites.
There is a favorite menu where you can pick items for favorites. Good! But not the buttons?

Am I missing something? The one who helps me to loot constainers with anything else then [E], will get my new shiny wastelander revolver I just crafted!

Thanks for another awesome FALLOUT world! :steamhappy:

use autohotkey and swap keys, easiest solution for now.

Search for NUMPAD on the Fallout 4 forums and you will find countless threads with people like myself complaining.

"Autohotkey"? I am going to make a Ghoul out of myself and have to kindly ask what that is? Addon? Wndows OS thing? Cant find it in game?

Its not in the game its a program used for mapping keys most people use it to make lazy macros so they dont have to push a bunch of crap but it can also be used for remapping keys.

HI Native. Is there a repair in Fallout 4? I don't see my gear or weapons loose durability.
Anyone know if you can repair? Or did they remove that? :-(

Pretty sad when the very first mod I am hoping for is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ keybinding mod. Ridiculous. And then you get people running thier mouths about a game pad. I have a X-box Gamepad for my PC. Good for two things. Side scrollers and top down isomatric games. Period. Been using arrow keys and numpad for nearly 30 years. It's great Bethesda is making mad money off the console players, I get the whole bottom dollar thing. But locking out keys for a PC port is just asinine. Bethesda is the only company I brag on thier games, but this trend makes me second guess that.

Very well said!
I don't mind whatever players wants to use as their controls.
They can use C64 joysticks if they wish!

If the only reason about the lack of key mapping is because of consoles? Then Bethesda should fix that in their game. It can NOT be Bethesdas job to lock keys because it would suit a gamepad? What's next, Ipads and Apple keyboards only?

I don't care about "MODS" for the game. The same key mapping Fallout 1-2-3 had, please!

Everything else is great!

I JUST grow a plant! Then a dog came and stole it! :steamsad:

Agreed.
As someone who can't play using WSAD... this is annoying. I have larger hands, so I move the movement keys over one, making them EDSF. Making E my move forward key, and I remap my USE key to SPACE.

But, Fallout 4, while it lets me remap Use to SPACE... there are certain instances that won't change.
Such as the new Looting system. Which I love. But, while looking at a desk, if I press E to walk away... I instantly take the first item in the desk (or whatever I'm looking at) as that control won't remap to SPACE.

Same with the crafting. If I'm walking around, placing walls, beds... stuff around the settlement, I can't press E to walk forward. As pressing E places whatever item I currently have selected.

This is something that needs to be changed.
Not being able to walk forward while crafting in the settlement is horrible. And, it makes lookting a bit annoying at times.

Yup, everything in the game is great! This is base mechanics and not game related.

Make the keys for looting boxes and when you craft simply be mappable!
:steamfacepalm:

The first bug fix patches is already out! Awesome!
Any hope for the [E] key? :steamhappy:

It is highly annoying that the E key can't be changed for looting etc. I recall this annying issue with Skyrim as well. Bethesda seem to think that it is optimal for everybody to play the way they like it. Pretty arrogant. Also explains why mods are so popular for there games.

mooooooooood please!!! It's not cool to use E to loot when you use arrows. Ah and you also cannot move when in workshop edit mode because it's hard binded to select objects

This has sadly been a problem with every game on this engine since Fallout 3. Every release has the same exact issue. Certain keys can't be mapped, some can't be remapped, and it's always the same bloody keys every time, despite countless years of people yelling at them.

They are completely out of touch and entirely oblivious.

This problem was fixed in 1.2 patch, can use the same key for pickup and cabinets based items now

Well have hope, they added numbpa to rebind, not sure if it worked, but they made binding chages with last patch. So I would think the PC UI is a work in progress. They had to get the console UI for launch and they wanted, or were forced, to relase on a set date, before the shopping season. So each patch will peacie new additions for the PC UI, or this is what I think. Use AHK for now. Hope for improvemnt in the fututre.
