Settlements...well...suck.
I am trying so hard not to hate on the settlement system but I mean really, it feels as if its in experimental mode. The very first thing I noticed was the limited amount of items you had to work with...some categories only containing 2 buildable items. I must have seen over a hundred or more props in the in-game world that I couldn't build that would have been awesome to have. The next thing I have a problem with is the size limit...I mean...really? If I had it in my mind to build a damn skyscraper then I should have that option! I don't known how many times I have tried to put a wood fence around my settlement only to run out of room after placing just 4 walls.
Then there is the hit detection with items and walls. Sometimes walls or floors won't snap together either for no apparent reason or there is a tiny pebble or twig in the way causing me to relocate the entire structure. Also, it seems anytime I place items in my house they dissapear only to reappear in the street outside or I will find them noclipped halfway through the table or floor making it impossible to customize your house with items you find in the world. Lastly,(for now anyways) the crops seem take up the most space due to the low amount of food each piece gives and I have yet to find anything that gives you 10 -40 food in one go like the buildable water purifier. So the building radius for your settlement ends up feeling a bit too small after a few minutes.

Agreed.

Mods. Bethesda relies really heavily on their community and I think they intentionally gimped aspects of settlements because they knew it'd be fixed anyway.
Limits and snapping can be toggled by in-game functionality, funnily enough.
I've never encountered or head of spawned items moving around - that's probably on you somehow, but I'm not judging.

Tl;dr nice opportunity, but as usual it's on us, the end-user, to get the potential out of it.
Sorry, man.

As far as the build limit this is a computer issue, your PC can only handle so many items on the screen before it goes Kaput and crashes. As for the wall issue, place a wood or metal floor first, then the wall bits will snap onto that, trust me it's SOO much easier that way.

I've never needed MASSIVE amounts of food to keep my settlements flourishing, it's actually quite easy to get them rather tight. Now some plots are just insanely small, (Looking at you Jamacia!)

What about Boston Airport? tiny little corner of dirt on it and no option to make food.

Settlments give you unlimited caps, a convinient home base with everything you could ever need from a variety of stores, safe places to keep your army of gear and ♥♥♥♥ loads of crafting materials.

Yes they could be expanded on but in a base game with so much else to offer with dlc comming I'm perfectly satisfied.

Unlimited caps?? How? I have every store built and manned in Sancutary and have not seen a single cap come my way.

Shops generate caps, but this isnt the only way, or even the best way.

Water purifiers generate purified water, and lots of it. Excess water that your town doesnt use is sent as purified water to your storage for personal use, build enough water purifiers (I have 5 towns with literally nothing but 200 water purifiers and turrets) and you will get over 100 purified water per settlment per real life hour (give or take) this sells for over 1k caps depending on charisma and perks.

Thats more caps than you could ever spend, initially its ballanced, but after about 8 in game hours you'll have over 20k caps and nothing to buy but ammo and stim packs (which are irellivent now because purified water also gives you more healing than you can handle)

if your having trouble with settlement size use a mod or if your not into them theres a trick for increasing settlement size, just drop 5 10mm pistols on the group and store them directory to the workshop in workshop mode it lowers settlement size yet never increases it if you drop them again.

there are some books you can collect to increase your buildable selections but,...yea it does, big time

I have found purified water and caps in the workbench but I thought it was due to me scrapping a number of containers that had a few caps in them and the items were transported to the workbench. Is that what that is? If so I wish it gave me a bit more notice to it.

same can be done if you have a scrap workstation with a person to man it.

Does the scrap workstation bring in junk? That may be a stupid question but bear with me I am still confused with this management system.
