Settlement Ideas for Fallout 4
I would love the idea that if you side with a Faction, you'd have to compete with the other Factions to take Settlements. These Settlements being influenced by the Faction they support or the Faction that controls them. You could also have new quests where you have to go protect your supply lines from Raiders, Super Mutants and Enemy Factions. You could also have the opposite of those quests, where you set up Ambushes to destroy the Supply Lines of Enemy Factions. This could have an impact on that Faction, if they can't properly protect their supply lines they'll have weaker weapons, armour and be lower levels when encountering them and this also affects the player and the Faction you choose to side with, if you can't protect your supply lines, the Minutemen won't show up when you fire your flare or fire artillery when you throw an artillery smoke grenade because they lack the Manpower and ammo, the BoS won't send a Vertibird to pick you up because they need maintenance. This won't effect the RailRoad or the Institute but they also need Settlements in order to have influence in the Commonwealth, if a Settlement is under influence by a certain Faction, they'll support the Faction and will oppose or outright be hostile towards other Factions. The player will have to be the one to change the influence of Settlements to side with a friendly Faction by doing favors for the Settlement, protecting the Settlement when it's attack and keeping the happiness of that Settlement high. In cases like the BoS, NW Raiders or the Institute, you might have to take Settlements by force as the BoS/Institute/NW Raider since not all Factions are liked by everyone in the Commonwealth, the RailRoad and Minutemen will have to solely rely on freeing oppressed Settlements from BoS, Institute or NW Raider control and swaying positive influence over other Settlements while the BoS, Institute or NW Raiders can oppress Settlements instead of just having influence over them. Depending on how many Settlements each Faction has will decide how Major Settlements like Good Neighbor and Diamond City will be affected.

Now see, if we could ever have a real and proper Fallout 4- based mmo, I'd be all over all of that.

Half of it's already in the game in the Nuka World raiders choice. But the extent of that is obviously limited. The various faction fetch quests we do are kind of a 'simulation' of the rest, but yeah it's not really going out there and doing escort missions or repair jobs (aside from there are a couple repair-the-fog-condenser missions in Far Harbor).
My head hurts after reading that wot.
Looks like a lot of micro management to me.

First, learn paragraphs. They are your friend. Second, have you tried any of the FO4 settlement mods? Gamerant and TheGamer both have good curated lists. Search is also your friend.

I wouldn't want that in Fallout 4. But there may be mods which can give you something like it. I don't use any, so can not point you to a specific one. Check out Nexus Mods.

This is partly already the case. Whenever I call the Minutemen do they show up with Laser Muskets. Someone must be messing with their supply lines already. :steammocking:

Thank you for mod suggestions, and sorry for the bad paragraphs :/

I'd even settle for how they did it in the Stalker Clear Sky with the faction wars. They just periodically try to take the zone next to their existing territory, regardless if you're allied, so there's just a fluid ongoing war for territory. They could just do this with the settlements here, where factions attack the nearest enemy settlements to try to take control.

I would only wish that the engine had been coded properly enough that when you get a normal settlement mission, "ghouls/bugs/raiders 'around this area'" would MEAN 'actually around the corner' and not 'literally across the map'. I'm pretty sure that there are mods that have manually changed the spawn lists for the locations of said types of quests, but I do also believe that it TOOK manually doing so, rather than just saying to the game's code, "only x distance" because it just does not understand that at all.

But only the MM want settlements. The BOS, RR and Institute factions don't care about settlers.
TBH, Settlers are annoying and only useful for growing food that can be made into glue.

What Xenon said.

When I play the game the only strategic thought I have in regard to the settlers & settlements is which settlements will eventually become my raider outposts, which ones will be vassals, which one will be the dumping ground for the discarded companions so I wouldn’t have to interact with them after getting the perks (usually Longfellow’s cabin), which one will be the Hub (usually Starlight), and which one will be my glorified loot depot (usually Vault 88). That’s more than enough for me.
