If you have two mods trying to do the same thing that can often cause a crash at start up. Listing the mods you are using would help with trouble shooting the issue since Fallout 4 by itself runs just fine for most everyone.
2. Are you 100% certain that you have all the requirements for each of your mods? If you’re using Nexus, a mod’s requirements can be found on its Description page under the “Requirements” tab (click it and look at the “Nexus Requirements” section).
3. If you have any mods that require Fallout 4 Script Extender, and you have FO4SE installed, are you making sure to launch the game via the fo4se_launcher.exe as opposed to the regular fallout4.exe?
4. If you’re using Vortex, did you give it one final “Deploy”? Vortex deploys your mods automatically any time you enable/disable/install mods but every so often it seems to mess up - especially if you’ve enabled/disabled multiple mods in quick succession. A final deploy can solve this.
A crash that occurs shortly after launching a modded game can be caused by a couple things:
Missing mods required by the mods you’re using, launching the game via the normal .exe instead of the FO4SE .exe (if you’re using any mods that require FO4SE and you have it installed), improperly installed mods, and going over the ESP/ESM or BA2 limit (which shouldn’t be an issue for you if you’ve only got 20 mods).
Nothing of the mods do the same thing since i played with the mod for over 2 years now.
I haven't tried removing every savegame but i will definetly once i get to my pc
It’s a utility mod but most relevant for you as it will generate a crash log automatically upon game crash.
If you can’t make sense of the log it generates (who can, right?), I highly recommend using this:
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/56255
It will scan your crash logs and provide a breakdown of possible causes and indicate which mods may or may not be responsible (and possible suggestions on how to address the issue), It also includes a handy reference PDF that gives further explanations for various events which can cause your game to crash.
I want to try and understand your situation better though, so let me know if this is correct:
You were playing FO4 regularly with no issues prior to getting these crashes? They just started out of the blue? You did not come back to the game and start playing again after a lengthy amount of time?
The game is crashing upon launch? You double click the .exe, it starts, you get to the intro video or main menu, and then it crashes? And this occurs every single time? Or is it crashing when you try to load your save game, or shortly into playing your save game?
You did not download or uninstall any mods recently? You’ve been using the same 20 or so mods this whole time?
Have you updated any of your mods recently? I ask this because with mods that have been around for awhile, it’s entirely possible they’ve gotten updated and their requirements can change.
You have the latest version of FO4SE and are launching the game from the FO4SE_launcher.exe?
What's the best way to cap the fPS?
create a new local windows account.
logout
login with the new account
turn off/disable windows one drive (it is ON by default for new accounts as I learned the hard way)
run steam then the game and see if the game works
