They didn't. The Fire Ant mutation is caused by FEV exposure, which coincidentally occurred in both the Capital Wasteland (thanks to Dr. Lesko) and the Mojave (which could be the result of any number of things really). They didn't travel anywhere and cross-country treks are close to impossible in the Fallout universe, especially in only like 4 years time.

It's probably not the same Mechanist. Others have mentioned his voice being quite a bit different, and have suggested that instead of the "original" Mechanist, it's actually the kid from Canterbury Commons donning the suit and replacing him.

Alternately it could be some other whacko entirely because the Silver Shroud broadcasts suggest that the Mechanist is a Pre-War comic character, and not an original invention by the Canterbury looney.

Yeah of course but there is still a chance that this one is from Cantabury if its the kid which is the side I'm on. It could still be someone other crazy person though I would just like to get some more info on the Capital. What I think happened is the Mechinist was forced out of town and the kid followed him. The Mechanist probably died causing the kid to go nuts taking over as him, he could be attempting to take over the commonwealth for synths or just attempting to gain enough power to return to Cantabury Commons to destroy it.

But really there are so many different possibilities which is why I can't wait for next Tuesday, don't like to power through stories or DLC but I really want to find out the complete story behind this as soon as I can lol.

Harold also made it across the country, but it took him upwards of 70 years. There are MASSIVE hindrances preventing cross country travel, ranging from hostile wildlife to the winds of The Divide (and more recently Caesar's Legion).

nono i mean the 3 recon teams for the bos. and even elder lyons came with troops they weren't all that old although sure may have been 10-15 years thats the latest. plus remember these aren't people they're ants so it really makes no sense that they're in 2 spots and not in the common wealth. i will agree it makes sense that its been 10 years but not that much sense on certain things

Yeah I agree that the commonwealth should have ants, it also wouldn't be a stretch to have fire breathing ants since it seems to be a natural mutation of FEV exposure in ants so they don't have to be from the Mojave. I would also like to see exploding ants, since the only apparent perquisite is the consumption of gunpowder.

OH! Yeah the Brotherhood is a whole different story. Honestly I have no idea how they got across the country, but I would guess that it took them quite a long time to accomplish that feat as well.
