Is FO4 prone to crash after extended period of playtime?
I haven't had a single crash in more than 50 hours, yet this weekend I had 2, both after extensive playtime, like after 4 hours non-stop. Both crashes were completely random and out of blue when I was just walking peacefully in the woods, not under intense circumstances, there were no warnings (like dropping FPS or freezings), not upon loading etc.

Has anyone else noticed this problem?

Yup; may be playing for several hourse, saving as needed most of the time (playing on survivor), and just like that - wham, a CTD. I have only six very minor mods.

For me it has happened mostly in the late evenings/very early AM - have no idea it's FO4 or Steam which fails.

It's most prone to crash if you leave it paused or Idle for a long time. As for just having playtime bloat, I think it depends on what You've actually done. I know the game engine doesn't like having tons of settlements with 40+ people, and sometimes Bunker Hill can become a minefield of crashes. There's also the VATS freezes that like to happen. Particularly while something you target is falling.

Other than that I haven't really encountered any crashing issue that wasn't self-induced. Namely, video card overclocking. But this usually results in a very obvious Display driver crash and not your standard CTD.

or not. i can start up the game play fo a half hour 45 min.s bink crash to steam library . i can play for extended periods and no crash. it is random .but farily regular. i am so used to losing chunks of play to surivival that i am numb to it. my graphix card runs so hot i do not let it idle or pause much. it could be display driver crash for me i just dont know.

Playing offline on PC for 4+ hours, I the game used to hog memory to the point where I can't even quit. Memory leaks.

Nah if it's self-induced I would have gotten a lot more crashes. It also wasn't idling at the time of the crash (though I do sometimes leave the game idle for like 30-40 seconds, at most maybe 1 minute or 2 (don't think that's very long though). I don't have settlements with more than 20 ppl, actually never in the same place, just completely random.

I've found that it can be related to the card you have... on my old desktop I could fallout 4 for two to three days straight no problem... When I upgraded my desktop and graphics card [from a R7770 to a R980] I had to fiddle with the card settings in order to stop the game from crashing...

It was the power saving feature on the card that was causing the issue, cause I'd turn screen off and let game run... Now, the game stays stable in gene4ral and I have few crashes...

So consider looking into that.

But any game really after extended play time will eventually crash out to lack of resources.

Hum next time I will try to remember the time of the day. Hoping to find a pattern.

Oh ok that's a nice tip, thanks. I'm on Nvidia and I have the newest 1080. Though my card is on adaptive, not power saving mode.

I play for 6 to 10 hours at a time and I have never had a CTD. Just an FYI My A/C went out Friday evening and even with fans in my man cave it's 90+ degrees(thank God for Ice cold Stella Artois). I run a Fx9590 and 2 MSI R9 390X 8GB GPU's all liquid cooled and still no CTD's.

Nope.

It's just fallout. Everyone since fo1 has randomly crashed or you can play for 100hrs+ and never have one. I think it's coz there just so much happening and from time to time a little to much happens at once for the engine to handle

I definitely feel like the game's performance slows as you play longer

It's your Puter.

My play style is lean & stealth, so few settlements and those are also lean in the way of supporting resources.

All my CTDs are true CTDs - not back to Steam interface, and all take place when simply walking.

Have now started exiting upon a save after some playing time, then restart the game, just in case that's a factor. It's also popped up more in the last several weeks, however was fine for a few months, and previously had this experience - say two-three months after release.

I could buy into that ...
