Is that hard to look on the internet?

OK, you should already have the Fallout4Custom.ini in Documents/My Games/Fallout 4.

Inorder for nexus mods to work you need to add the following 3 lines to the Custom.ini. Under iLocation Y=0 add;
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

Make sure you place the capital letters where they go and nexus mods will work.

i did search the net i most always do. there are different types of files i dont know which kind to make. And no mine did not come with a custom.ini nexus has a tutorial that you have make this file but it didnt say what type of file. the tutorial on nexus forums has it like this.

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS/
[Display]
iLocationX=0
iLocation Y=0

i have not tried out the game after putting a mod in. I am at the very beggining. I found a link here on steam to download this file it was not in the order as above. I dont know if it matters the order the lines are in. Its not a text file i just dont know the file type

OK, here's a step by step:

1. go to .......users/YourUserName/Documents/my games/Fallout4/ and open that folder.

2. Right click in any blank spot and choose New => Text Document

3. Name it Fallout4Custom.ini (say YES when it asks you if you want to change the file extension)

4. Make your edits to the file you just created in Step 3.

5. Done

EDIT: If you can't see the file extensions, select "View" and check the "File Name Extensions" box

First, you should Not add mods to the game until you play a few hours and make sure the vanilla game runs well for you. Depending on the mods you install it can make a difference how well the game performs. For example, you should monitor your fps in the vanilla game to get a baseline for how well the game performs with your rig. Mods can easily cause performance issues and without knowing what fps you get with the vanilla game you won't know if or how much a mod has hurt your performance. Play until you at least reach Concord and better Diamond City. Once you get near Downtown Boston almost everyone takes somekind of a hit to their fps. You Really need to play the game First!

Now, once you leave the vault and get as far as the Red Rocket station the game will have created the Fallout4Custom.ini.

What goes in it and in the correct order is;

[Display]
iLocation X=0
iLocation Y=0
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal= <-------You can put the STRINGS part there if you wish.

There are a few mods that recommend it. I don't have STRINGS there and my mods work fine.

If by chance the game does not create the Fallout4Custom.ini you can create it yourself. To do that, open notepad and don't type anything. Click the file tab at the top then click save. Now name the file Fallout4Custom.ini and click save at the bottom. By default that will save it to Documents. Find it then drag and drop it into your Documents/My Games/Fallout 4 folder. Then add what I told you above. nexus mods will now work.

Ninja'd and your way is much faster. BUT, My comment is longer and took far more time and effort. I'm tired now. :)

Simplicity is bliss my friend. Ever hear of the K.I.S.S. principle?

hmm ok so you do have to play a while by time the custom.ini installs. well i may have jumped the gun i have only reached the dead vault controller body/pipboy. I found a custom.ini here on steam well not on steam someone put a link for one. I have the lines order in my reply above. Have a mod in that is small in size under a MB and its working once i discovored the activate button on the load screen. I am playing with a xbox wireless controller and it looks like im gonna like it. I havnt even got outside and FO4 looks real good way better than FO3 and FNV. So we will see how it goes with a mod in before getting outside. maybe a mistake from what you say. I just hope it holds up. hmm kinda long post,thanks.
Oh since i already got a custom.ini i may have to delete the one thats comming hope it dont cause a crash. Oh it probably wont since it wont have anything to read from the second one i dont will see. now you got me a little concerned.

You're welcome. Have fun, but be careful with what mods you choose to install. Read Everything on a mods page. The description, install AND uninstall directions. The posts/comments, bugs section, FAQS and requirements. Read everything you can find then make an informed decision whether the mod is worth having.

The game won't create a second Custom.ini if you have already created it.

As @ronr42 said, "once you leave the vault and get as far as the Red Rocket station the game will have created the Fallout4Custom.ini."
