You Tried to make a 40k game without understanding anything about it.
I was one of the very first founders, I put about 250$ into this project. I was hopeful, but concerned.
Here is the sad reality. If this is what you wanted to make, you never should have tried your hand at 40k.
The whole time you failed to understand the massive differences in the factions and tried to go for a Third Person Shooter type of Balance. That is not how 40k works. Every race has their own strengths and weaknesses. Every Race have very different gear of varying power. Every race DOES NOT have the same amount of troops on the field. You, The Devs, were not prepared to try and bring that into the game, instead looking to replicate Space Marine's multiplayer on a bigger scale. That was never going to work.
Space marines will field the fewest number of units, but be on average more powerful per troop. You should have had less players, but stronger units.
Orks, will flood the field with bodies and guns, creating the terrifying wave of Green Skins, Dakka and WAAAGH. There needed to be far more Ork players in each match versus any of the other races while having them individually less effective. That is how Orks operate.. Same goes for the Eldar in a different way.
By not having a different number of players on each faction, you completely took away from their playstyle and tactics. By focusing on the Balance of an average TPS, you could never make a good 40k game and you should have understood that before attempting this. Now, instead, you have destroyed our faith in your company, screwed us out of money with promises of a much grander scale than you could have ever delivered, and pissed all over the 40K franchise and community.

Do you realize, that most of the players want to play SM? Matchmaking would havee been a horror with lot of SM players complaining, that they got no matches.

Bruh, look, I'm not trying to excuse behavior for the disaster this game was, but this is the most ridiculous thing to complain about. Obviously they can't make each race function perfectly accurately to the lore, that would not only be next to impossible to balance (especially considering this game had some glaring balance issues of it's own) You also can't just artificially cram more or less players into different teams, the matchmaking would go to ♥♥♥♥. They managed to make the races feel different enough to allow for different playstyles (even though there was some unbalanced ♥♥♥♥ with some factions) and that's honestly about as good as you can hope for with this type of game. This is a terrible take, gonna be honest.

It probably had more to do with BE being a....lets be charitable and say "third tier" company with no particular track record of doing MMOs, taking on a project that would be ambitious for a giant company and doing it with crowdfunding. And using unproven pie-in-the-sky tech to cater to a very limited audience and coming out well past the time when third person shooters are a Thing. Past the elevator pitch of "Planetside but 40k", it was never a good, workable idea.

I think in the End we could all agree on a consensus of issues and stop hating each other, BUT, We have yet to see any other company pick up a Liscense for this type of game at this type of scale. The next 2 coming out are co-op 4 man squaders, My opinion still remains the online 40k crowd is too damn toxic and vocal, and i add "picky" rather than petty. This type of reaction your seeing on the Boards now, is just what no custom service rep wants to deal with 24/7 for 5 straight years, So Space Marine was not a Homerun, Eternal Crusade was a nextgen and a miss, And now the crowd is screaming the next game BETTER BE IF THEY KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR THEM !!!! Well, Right now NOBODY running a top or second tier company is looking too hard for a way to jump into the TOXIC cesspit of the GW gaming crowd. The exception is apps and browser games...with stores.

I was thinking that maybe there just aren´t enough people interested in FPS/TPS set in the WH40K universe to justify making a game like EC. The WH40K games that are coming out are all about single player or small co-op experiences, right? Maybe companies just don´t believe that theres enough players to justify making a MMO set in the WH40K universe.

I'm going to be honest, I'm a founder, but I only joined early 2015, when Nathan was already in power I believe, which means that I didn´t buy the game because I was expecting it to be a WH40K MMO. I bought it because I saw an improved Space Marine multiplayer (PvP) experience that was also pretty close to a Battlefield type of game, with the bonus of having my favourite race as one of the playable factions. In other words I bought the game, mostly, for what I saw and not what it could be.

However, apparently theres not many people interested in a Battlefield type of game, set in the WH40K universe, such as EC, otherwise this game wouldn´t have died like this. EC is literally the only FPS/TPS multiplayer PVP experience, with big maps and player counts similar to a Battlefield type of game, that we have, set in the WH40K universe. Yet the players and the devs just left game, as if there was no interest for this type of game in the market. Space Marine also offers a multiplayer PVP experience, but, content wise, it's nowhere near what EC offers. Gameplay wise it's subjetive, but I preffered playing EC (probably because theres a lot more multiplayer content and depth in here aswell).

as great as this sounds this would only have worked in an MMO, especially if joining space marine ment an actual commitment where not playing for longer periods of time would gradually lower your experience so that only the strongest stay at the higher "ranks" with which the best toys are kept giving that elitist feeling without barricading access to marines.
while on the opposite side of the spectrum Orkz would never suffer from degrading progress but need more people to band together in waves to achieve the same sort of goals.

eldar and chaos would be the in between

then you would label the different factions according to play style (so LSM = commitment, Orkz = casual, etc) which would attract the right sort of play styles.

or at least try, but sadly im no billionaire so i could never make this a reality but would love to if i could :(

lol OP you should stick to painting and playing with tabletop miniatures and most definitely NEVER get a say in development of any pc game, be it 40k or not.

there is a good amount of data available on what happened during EC's development cycle and not a single idea you wrote down would've worked within its environment.

you might be able to get away with it in a RTS game, but definitely not in a (competitive) shooter.

gameplay always > lore/fluff

Look, the game was ♥♥♥♥. they lied to us - yes. But really, shouldn't we be looking at Games Workshop as well. They have whored out the licence to any scumbag for a fee. Hence the plethora of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Warhammer titles and failures.

Yes be pissed at the deceitful devs, but Games Workshop really need to step up to the plate and stop handing out IP licenses to any tom, ♥♥♥♥ and harry.
