I demand a refund
I bought this game. I'm a founder. I can't even get on the site as it is non secure. If the game is shutting down, I want my money back. If you are not leaving this running on peer to peer mode, you have to give us back the money as you are making the thing we paid for unusable.

Even if that was a thing that could happen, I doubt there's anyone around that could do it. Games shut down; I doubt you're getting a refund for a purchase made years ago.

If you take away access to something somebody paid for that was not subscription based, you have to compensate them.

The game itself, when sold for a price is a good, not a service.

You're funny. Bet you sued when Nintendo killed the online for old Pokémon games.

While I get what you are trying to say, all the same it's 100% certain there's some kind of legal clause you agreed to that lets them do this.

All your money went into the game we got to play. It's funny you think there's a pile of cash sitting somewhere "in case" the game goes belly up and then they can pay out the founders.

Nope. If they had money they wouldn't be closing shop.
Good luck in court though.
They didn't refund players from Deathgarden as well. Even people who bought the game recently back then.

Deathgarden players DID get a refund. I was in their discord. You had to apply for it though.

Nah.

Buckle up buttercup because I'm about to explain how the grown up world works:

"Buying Software" entails that you paid for the Intellectual Property associated with the software in question. So unless you paid literal millions in a buy-out to become the copyright owner of the software, you didn't "pay for" anything.

What you bought was a license agreement that granted you permission from the copyright holder to have the software on your machine and run the code and connect to and utilize the servers. As part of the EULA that you agreed to upon purchasing your license to the game, you stated that your license can be revoked at any time for any reason and that the copyright holders are not in any way liable for any interruption of that service, up to and including permanent shutdown of the game servers.

You aren't owed anything, you aren't entitled to compensation, because when you bought the game you gave them permission to terminate your license whenever they please. It is 100% up to the rights holder to decide if they want to offer refunds or not, and they are under absolutely no obligation to make that choice.

Don't like it?

Neither do a lot of people.

Want to stop it?

Then start supporting grassroots Socialist political movements that want to restructure the way copyright works so you actually own the software you "buy" instead of the current structure that is completely dictated in full by Disney and affiliated companies who have turned Copyright in to their own personal money making system, because all the problems you're having right now are the fault of late-stage Capitalism dominated by corporations at the expense of the working class.

This sort of thing has gone to court in some countries actually. It is like saying if I buy a car, I don't own the designs so the company has the right to come back and take my car away. Doesn't work that way.

You cant get a refund if you were a founder of a game that launched forever ago and is now shutting down, thats just not how life works. When they shut down the servers for BFII people wont be able to get a refund unless they had bought the game within two weeks of it shutting down and spent less than 2 hours in the game here on steam, thats just how it works with these things, thats why charging money for games that are presented as a service but really arent is probably not a great idea but thats what the reality is. You bought the game as a founder to get it funded im sure, but the games been dead for years and theyre calling it quits, you made what you would call a "bad investment" take it on the chin and move along. The Emperor thanks you for your service, Marine.

I paid nearly $200 for this game when it was in development. I am a founder. I was loyal until they made it a freemium game. All that money I had paid pre-release, just for it to be free for everyone. I knew they were going to shut down, but it's still one of the most significant let downs of my entire gaming career. I cannot describe how badly I wanted this game, only to have my hopes shattered. This news of the game shutting down is bittersweet. They literally scammed the Warhammer community (took our money) and are now running.

Welcome to the club.

That's going to happen with every MMORPG ever - WoW, EQ, RS, UO, ESO, LOTRO. Already happened to SWG - they shut it down, everyone that paid for it lost everything, they launch SWTOR on the next day and everyone who paid for SWG and lost it had to pay for SWTOR and start all over, also deal with a completely different game that they don't like or even asked for.
