Advancement tree broken
I have level 4 and 78 AP.
The cost of storm bolter mastery is 75AP and rank 4.
Yet on the Advancements page, it is still locked.

why

Only thing i can think of is check again after the next match. If not that then... maybe someone else has a better idea.
Scratch what i said. Flexible Generator > Ammo Bundle > Stormbolter.
Yeah what skullface said, I had to go jump on my level 4 I hadn't played in months.
You see above the Stormbolters, the line that connects to the neck Bling you don't want ? you have to waste all those hard earned ability points filling them in to unlock Stormbolter, Dual ammo is very much a good idea , but the bonuses from all the bling really isn't a big whoop.

The idea behind this complicated mess, is to slow noobs and reward veterans, nobody is happy to get thier level 6 killed by a level 1, but it can still happen, so............

I wish they would cut down getting to level 6 by two thirds, hell this might be our last year, why not let us all go out with maxxed toons.
So, one needs to completely pursue two totally separate advancement lines to unlock this single perk, for no apparent reason. Can they fix it? Or is it a "feature"?
seperate, yet related. the one is LP reduction for Core Arsenal of Tactical Class. The other is Armor/Regen and Stamina/Regen Wargear. Ammo Bundle and Servo Skull for example are exclusive to Tacticals.
In theory it has a purpose, in reality it forces you to power level because you will buy things you don't need right now, And like most of us your doing Tactical first, smart choice best choice as the Capper on the team.

Ok so, you can use the Pve Area and you can solo HORDE mode maps, there are some guides showing the best spots or even cheat spots per map, don't expect to get to the end all the time, usually by wave 8 the Tyranid warrior shows up and kills you, this will help supplement Advancement and Req points between battles, its not going to help alot just some.

Switch To Heavy Bolter and equip extra ammo and a grenade, they have random ammo and healing supply boxes in the missions.

Yes Switch to Heavy bolter, you can use your advancment points on your Tactical tree.
No. It makes no sense. There is no particular reason why this particular perk should require four times as many advancement points to acquire.
It slows the growth but then rewards the guy who grinds it out, in theory, so a Veteran player who is all maxxed out can feel confident he is better than lower players.......only to get hit by a las cannon or sniped in the head.

You can use stormbolters without unlocking, you just have to pay loadout, drop your med pack and special knife blade.
Having saved and finally got both lines done so I could unlock it, it turns out I have to lose the stuff that was stopping me being instakilled anyway. So, not only did I have to use points to get a dozen things I didn't want, when I finally got the thing I wanted, it sucked anyway and didn't let me increase my toughness to any noticeable extent. The weapon still does little damage, is hard to aim (why no target lock ? it is 40,000 AD, and they have it on pistols - why not storm bolter?).

And they should change the graphics for the Advancement Point tree - the icons are so tiny and spaced out for no reason. It is almost impossible to see what is what.
Why not just have a choice? Why always force players to do stuff they don't want to do? Someone may want to just be one type of player, what is so bad about that? It is how a marine would be in real life, some generalists, some specialists. Why make them spend so much extra time doig things someone else wanted them to do? They paid for the game.
World of Warcraft did the same thing, and this template general approach is for 2 extreme but same reasons, some guys brains can pick out the things they need to get good, some guys can't, but both complain to the devs with the end result, one guy ends up a super sniper with minimal points spent, the other guy ends up a maxxed out veteran who keeps getting headshot by the sniper, and its not fair. then started the nerfing.....as usual.

Ok back up to your Stormbolter question, and target lock/aim bot. That is such a nerfed question, or maybe I should say LOADED question, because its been the bugaboo, it started out much better and has progressed/ been nerfed to what it is, and thats before blaming LAG.

The pistol was added because nobody could hit a Flyer, and it was hardly a 20% on a jumper.

And yeah, its not 40k tech, its 21st century, but thats because guys applied logic they knew while screaming, So the devs nerfed or applied known factors, not that it helped as its all me me me, so first something should work like its from 40,000 years in the future....until it kills them, then that wasn't fair and it needs to work like a rifle from today, or whatever it was that pissed them off.
To increase the damage Output of your Stormbolter, i recommend pairing it with a Servo Skull.

One of the final Supply Drops you'll get in the 30k Crates is a Unique Stormbolter which comes with increased Penetration. Vengeance Stormbolter.

I tested a simple as hell, yet kind of functional Loadout a while ago:

Vengeance Stormbolter
Relic Power Armor
Servo Skull
Medikit
Repair Aceelerator (Minor)

1000LP - No alterations of Pistol or Knife.
200HP/130Shield/130 Toughness

The Servo Skulls effect (blinkring red Crosshair on Enemies) is increasing their Damage taken. Combined with the increased Penetration of Vengeance Stormbolter, you'll be taking down your Foes rather quickly, aiming for the head. Eldar affected by Servo Skulls die within 5 Shots, Nurgle Chaos Marines in Daemonforged Armor should be cheese within 1 Clip.

The downside of this Kit is that its lacking assault capabilities, due to lack of Grenades. And well... Vengeance > 30k Supply Drops. Will test regular Stormbolters.

Placing a Servo* Skull in a wise Way, out of range of Fire and Explosives (as its destroyed by those), allows you to turn around Firefights. Additionally, an Enemy getting downed while effected by your Servo is netting you an additional 50 XP for Debuff Assist.
