discussion of it is not permitted here and you can safely deduct from this (and how protective GW is with their IP) that modding the game is neither permitted nor supported.
i and all the other 40k nerds feel your longing for a good 40k action game, but whatever significant thing that could have happened to this game to potentially influence other upcoming 40k games has already happened: it was such an unsuccessful title (obvious) generating so little revenue that it couldn't entice the dev studio/publisher to invest any more than the bare minimum they were probably contractually required to (personal assumptions).
there is no magic 40k dev man secretly watching how many people play eternal crusade to then decide if he's gonna bring us the next epic 40k shooter we're all waiting for.
come play with us if you feel like it and you're having fun in EC. if not, i wouldn't recommend forcing it upon yourself.
Not too clued up on the whole controversial mod but sounds like someone is trying their best to make something good out of this game, while I don’t agree with the unlocking of the cosmetics I do think modding support and community servers will bring this game to life.
i highly suspect this is/has been the case for a long time but not necessarily tied to EC. there's a multitude of failed 40k titles out there, and weirdly enough 40k pc games seem to attract an incredibly hard to please fanbase since everyone and their mother have their specific opinion about how this should work/look/sound like.
can you imagine the toxic backlash if someone built a 40k shooter but the bolter doesn't "sound right"? the forums would quickly look like the ones for eternal crusade, if you ever sifted through that hellscape. why would any sane dev team voluntarily do this to themselves?
yeah, i understand the desire to "inform" the market that there's a demand for a good 40k shooter. i'm sure that a lot of dev studios are aware (as there are a bunch trying and failing every year). i fail to see how bringing a handful of players to EC is gonna achieve that. "the market" is not monitoring EC player stats, there is no one noticing if EC goes from 100 daily players to 200 or even 300 (besides behavior's server logs). and these numbers are certainly far below what you could call significant.
the highest player peak we EVER had was just above 5000 concurrent logins. which again is far below what could be called successful. and the number dropped below 1000 only four months after release, never to recover, for reasons.
as in, if the game was any good, surely there'd be more players playing it, no?
about the mod: i'm convinced at least 1 of the creators has good intentions, but the circumstances are just not there to allow for mods to exist. there's only 2 proprietary servers, which means modders and vanilla players are competing with each other, and it's not hard to see where introducing a new balance system parallel to an already asymmetrical balance system gets problematic.
besides that, any changes you make to your client make you eligible for a permaban (inb4 "but no one ever got banned for using the mod" and "permabans in a f2p game haha") as per the games EULA.
with all that said, i'm a regular player approaching 3k hrs in EC ,so i can assure you there's some love for it hidden underneath me being a realist lol
and while i'm convinced it will not influence any other game makers or EC's future, i sure hope you succeed in bringing some new players ;)
