how to find matches - and actually play EC
green here, with a useful compilation of words for you <3

follow these steps to maximize your chances of getting into a match. the instructions are intended to provide exactly and only that and do NOT take into account your geographic location, or faction preferences (which both may hamper your chances).
for those interested, a comprehensive explanation can be found below.

aye, let's start with your TL;DR:
  1. make sure you enabled "all regions" in your server preferences:
    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1911022851
    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1911022881
    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1911022911

  2. create and play as either a Loyalist or a Chaos Space Marine, do not bother with orks or eldar. free side tip: more often than not, CSM have less players online than LSM.

  3. on weekdays, start queueing after 3:00pm (15:00) UTC. on weekends, start after 12:00pm (12:00) UTC.

  4. join the EC community's main discord and use it. pick up your faction's role to get notifications. each day, people ping whenever the first match of the day starts, and from there on there's a few hours of pew pew to be had. find a list of servers here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/375230/discussions/0/1842440600605753972/

that's all. now on to the meaty bits and some general advice. feel free to skip if familiar with the topic, otherwise i recommend a quick read so you can avoid not knowing stuff. remember? knowledge is power.

use these two tools to get an idea for when people are playing (and when to join the queue):

as people have pointed out before, the game has a very small playerbase (about 100-130 max concurrent players daily), and a good portion of them is based in europe. therefore most of the action happens during european afternoons/nights (approx 4pm - 1am UTC), with the odd game here and there outside of prime time. you have my sympathy if you happen to live outside the populated timezones, but there's nothing that can be done about it apart from screwing with your sleep schedule or birthing a new playerbase in your longitude.
"most of the action" means 2-3 simultaneous matches on rotation during weekdays (up to 5-6 on weekends), to give you an idea about activity. games have been known to start as early as 1pm UTC these last few months.
"max concurrent players" is the highest amount of players that were online at the same moment throughout 24 hours and around the world. it is NOT the actual number of players on this planet.

double check your settings and make sure server preferences are set to "all regions". there's only two servers in total, one in frankfurt (germany) and another one in norfolk (virginia).

the game is f2p. by unlocking premium you unlock the ability to queue vs specific factions (instead of just "battle now"). this may net you faster queue times only if you manage to queue at exactly the right moment vs the right faction. the advantage is negligible and requires some experience + luck.
unrelated boons of premium: you get to play as the jump classes and unlock "faster progression": without premium you earn only 33% of XP and AP - the rest is "banked". it accumulates and upon unlocking premium you basically get paid out. you unlock premium by either buying the game or spending 20.000 RTC in-game.

join discord. seriously, get your lazy behind onto the main community hub and preferably the server for your go-to faction.
xeno factions almost exclusively depend on discord shout-outs to get games rolling. LSM and CSM get games regularly without the absolute need for communication. i would still heartily recommend hopping on at least the server of the faction you are playing and try to get a voice chat going. every faction benefits immensely from a sliver of communication and coordination, and this is still a team based game, so yeah you get the idea.

create a toon for each faction. chances are you won't be able to max out your xeno chars before the game gets shut down, but:

  • you can play even when your preferred faction is offline (on the odd chance that xenos are playing).

  • you can balance out the teams. matchups of 15 maxed out veterans vs 3 vets herding a flock of 12 low rank beginners anyone? don't complain about very strong teams steamrolling your group of newbies, go join the strong team and level the playing field. same goes for max rank players ofc, but this "guide" is addressed to newish players.

  • it teaches you A LOT about the other races, their weaponry, their playstyle and you'll be able to sound much more nerdy when sharing an educated opinion about "this OP, that OP".

if you payed attention you noticed the last bit contradicts the TL;DR. be a smart citizen and heed the advice anyways! ;)

lastly, and in shameless self promotion, here's a link to a guide i wrote quite some time ago. it may contain debatable stuff as i was only a mere 400 hrs old in-game (sitting around 1500 hrs now), but most of it still stands today:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1336008251

anyways that's it for now.
i used to offer introductory training sessions back in the day, which is to say if you got questions, seek advice, or want to train/improve in a specific area, don't be shy and feel free to ask. i'm always glad if i can help and may set some time aside for you. on that note, i play all factions and my characters all have "Green" in in their name; on LSM i'm Sgt Green One/Darius Greene.

see you on the battlefields of arkhona!

mods pls pin ;)

The advice for a good jump assault player is easy:

Don't drink and fly.

Mockingly posts:
"nEvEr FiNd AnY mAtChEs, NoBoDy pLaYs AnYmOrE"

Goes on to post a whole wall about how to try to find when the few people left playing this game are playing and which factions won't get matches because of dead playerbase. Yeah, totes.
cleric66 9. des. 2019 kl. 7.31
Tsk Tsk cynics, if you want matches, you attract more bees with honey not vinegar, the playerbase itself isn't the most charming or welcoming. not for nothing, but some positive posts, some better chatter about the good things about this game, find the half full not the half empty.

If you want Orks and Eldar more often, You need to find the best parts about them, Shout it loudly and often, or else all the LSM players will not try something new. For instance..........

LSM players prefer swords and pistols over all the other weapon options, and its a mediocre choice until level 6, LSM are set up as a shooting faction.

ELDAR, are set up as a melee faction, and they start out good at, They also foot fast ,agile and nimble, making them hard to hit. The vehicles are also fast and easy to drive.

ORKS, have suffered this year losing vet players, BUT the ORKS have always been know to have the cool kids, That is too say , win or lose, it's a PARTY, lots of hot mic's, friendly chatter and banter, they get more wins than losses, they are fun.

@Failure
not sure where you wanna go with that but thanks for the input i guess?

i mock the ones that can't be arsed to do some thinking and research themselves and go on to spread how dead this game is and how nobody's playing it.
plus, i give a check list for people actually interested in playing, instead of complaining like you do. the adequate way to respond to this is "thank you". ;)

fyi there's matches every day during a time frame of about 9 hours, and lately this even includes xenos.
apart from that, there's xeno days at least once per week.

but i guess you missed the point of my post, summed up in the second and third sentences:

follow these steps to maximize your chances of getting into a match. the instructions are intended to provide exactly and only that

also, no need to read through a wall of text, since i even start explicitly with a TL;DR

Merry Xmas
if only there were cultists and gaurdsmen as fodder or creeps/bots so you could play with half the actual players and still get a good game.. being in Sydney im reduced to begging friends to play heh
the_green_one 30. des. 2019 kl. 10.48
hey man i feel you...
don't know if you use discord, but we got a bunch of other aussies&kiwis in the LSM main discord. i'm not promising anything, but if you poke em with a stick i'm sure you'll get a bunch of them to play. :)

Truth is the player base that is playing this game still is leaving slowly. So, yes people are not playing this anymore. It would be wise to not have blind faith in something that has already proven constant failure.
