Sakura Fantasy Chapter 1

Sakura Fantasy Chapter 1

This topic has been pinned, so it's probably important
Chapter 2 ~ Has Been Offically Dropped / Put On Permanent Haitus ~
As per Winged Cloud's Patreon page, Sakura Fantasy Chapter 1 (despite being one of their best entries) sold poorly. Sadly, as they are still a small business and cannot afford to take losses, Chapter 2 has been put on hold permanently. While abandoned, Winged Cloud did mention that they would consider alternatives much later. Obviously, if sales suddenly picked up for the VN, I am sure they would also reconsider.

~ As this was a repeated question, I thought creating a thread to highlight it in the forums was worthwhile. Feel free to discuss the dropping of the title here too. I know I am very disapointed to hear it. ~

It must have been a Patreon subscriber only post then. It was under one of their most recent comments about the future of Winged Cloud. If you agree to contribute to them it will show up under one of their comments about their future plans (including talking about Sakura Dungeon).

I also asked if they would consider doing a Kickstarter for the sequel as I knew that there were a lot of fans who would be disappointed, however, they never responded to that.

The only possible hope left for us now is to somehow drum up support so that they may decide that the sequel may be worthwhile and that they won't take any losses (or more if they have already taken some).

this is a real shame to hear aside from Sakura Dungeon:reheart: Sakura Fantasy was one my favorite vn's that they put out

I'm confused, is it because 'this game' sold poorly that chapter 2 is on hold?, or is it the other games after SF: Chapter 1 sold poorly that caused all of this?

They say they can't take losses yet I question why they would release garbage like SF: Beach, Beach 2, and Santa

SF: Chapter 1 sold poorly, likely worse than all those others you listed which was unfortunate. I believe both beach and swim club sold well, which is unfortunate as fantasy is far better.

They don't want to develop a game that they already know they will take a loss for as direct sequels for VNs usually sell less copies than their prequels (as you need to read the first one to understand the second).

Sakura Dungeon has been selling well to my knowledge too, and rightly so. That game is worth it.

I'm lost at how this one can sell worse than Beach and Beach 2, for at least me personally I will never buy Beach 1 and 2 + Santa (edit: add the upcoming Sakura Shine Girls to this list) cuz that art style totally looks horrible compared to all the other Sakura's. Plus Beach 2 got more bad reviews, yet Fantasy sells more poorly than even that one? Swim Club I never doubted would sell poorly (though what drives that to sell better than Fantasy?), but again the art style in that VN to me is preferable like Spirit, Angels, Fantasy, and Dungeon.

Like really, are they also basing their sale numbers from the initial release period for about a few months, or all the way up to now? Most casual people like myself will always wait for discounts (at least 50% for me) before getting stuff like this, and Fantasy was no different. But yea I was really looking to eventually Fantasy 2... for the story line ofc ;p

So the wait for Fantasy 2 was all for nothing. What a kick to the beans to the fans patiently awaiting anything on this. They could have even updated the original post with this info.

They just got a new community representative who has been answering all the Patreon questions for the past 2 days. Don't give up hope yet... Spam their twitter with the demand for Sakura Fantasy 2 and Sakura Spirit 2. Maybe they'll finally hear the voices and take the 'financial risk' They haven't given an official NO they just said at the time it isn't being worked on.

I did my part by buying most of the Sakura games (Sakura space was released yesterday and I didn't know, now I struggle to scrape money to get it). I just need to find time to read them as my days are usually "busy".

Is this game still worth buying without Ch 2?

Calling them a "Small company" when they get 13.3k$ per month ONLY trough patreon, meaning other things not even counted it... I wouldnt call that small.

Irrelevant in legally defining Winged Cloud as in most countries small business classifications are based on a business' employment number. In the US, which I believe Winged Cloud is based, a small business is one that employs less than 250 people. Obviously, Winged Cloud does not employ near that number and, therefore, qualifies as a small business. Most other countries also use the number of employees employed as their qualifications for small business.

13.3k is not even a lot of revenue for a business. 1 employee @ $11/hour, costs $1,760 excluding mandatory benefit payments. So a staff of 5 employess, which I am guessing Winged Cloud employs would be $8,800 per month. Then there is software fees (adobe creative cloud, etc.), outsourcing of music, rent (if they even have an office), and other costs which add up. I wouldn't be suprised if Winged Cloud used all of their pateron funds to cover operating expenses. Lastly, even if they were somehow magicially (but impossibly) pocketing it all, splitting the profits 5 ways, 30k per employee is not a large salary. So if you did want to use its revenue as an indicator of its size, it should still be considered a small business.

Most businesses that want to survive need to do so earning far more than 10k a month unless it is on the micro scale (i.e. meaning one employee).
