You have 20% more hp, can summon helpful player and npc phantoms and be invaded by other players and npcs if online.
If offline you can smmon npc phantoms for help and be invaded by npc phantoms.
If unembered you can still summon other players and npcs phantoms via red signs if online, and if offline you can summon npcs via red signs still.

It's similar to restoring humanity in dark souls 1. Only more casul since you don't lose health when not embered only gain bonus health for embering up.

You can only see the summoning signs when embered. You also get more HP. Keep in mind that you could also get invaded by other players if you're embered.

Depends on who you are trying to summon. If it is a helpful phantom, then yes.

You do not need to be embered to summon people who have used Red Signs (Red SIgn Soapstone). This is a pvp sign typically and will show up so long as you meet the conditions for them to appear.

Yes, and it also affects NPC invasions, so if there are specific items that you want from invaders, you should be embered all the time, or at least find out the areas where these invasions happen.
