Where's better armor?
I'm at the undead settlement past the dilapidated bridge area, and I still have all the original beginning knight armor. Is there any better armor available yet? And if so, how can I get it?

Guns are fun when you're responsible and not a dumb assclown like most.
Assclowns sound dangerous, and mildly entertaining.

carefully look at various armor strengths.

Chain armor is great vs slashing dmg and you can buy it at start of the game (many enemies use slashing weapons - read swords that dont poke). Since its easy to dodge pelvic-spear-thrusts or big slow clubs, its a great choice for start.
If you get speared or clubbed, it will hurt tho.

Shiva of the East set is very good vs slashing dmg (rivaling ultra heavy armors).

Study armors and dress accordingly.

lol knight set actually has better defense compared to some late game armor sets
Which is the sort of thing I love about 2/3 of the Souls Series, that a lot of people take for granted only wanting to talk up the hard bits, rather than the convenient bits on top that pushed it out of just being some niche game into a worldwide sensation.

"Here is your starting equipment for your generic knight/warrior/whatever. It's actually badass"

My first time finally making it through DS1, for the finale I threw my huge sword, artorias shield, and Elite Knight armor into my item chest. Killed a million Darkwraiths, upgraded my Warrior's Hard Leather Set and Longsword, and fought Gwyn the way I started.

Darksouls 3, a lot of starting equipment spreads are also plenty badass. A knight start's gear Vs the soul of Cinder is pretty legit, though you'd probably want a better shield for the same reason as DS1.

DS2 Warrior meanwhile... Even the usual person trying to do an SL 1 run wouldn't touch a broken sword the Warrior starts with if they had a choice.

Defenses doesn't matter. It's all about the fashion souls :fphat:
Just farm the cathedral knight set when you reach the cathedral of the deep. One of the best looking armours in game+has good stats.

Praise jesus if you get their shield to drop before killing 70+ of the shield knights, while wearing the mimic head.

It's heavy for it's size range of greatshields, but it's also better than the much beloved black iron greatshield for actually blocking attacks multiple times. (Why is the Lothric shield so underwhelming in stability despite needing even higher strength? See also" Lothric spear, why the ♥♥♥♥ do you rate 20 DEX to wield outside of how pretty you are?)

ah sorry
also it has undead legion set too
I've always considered Soul of Cinder set to be the most iconic
You could try farming the lothric knight set from the one near "Tower on the Wall" bonfire.
Yeah, the Knight armor set is one of the best ones in terms of stats-per-weight-unit. Anything better you'll find is also heavier, and it might be worth waiting some more until you can get rings that boosts your equip load. (If I remember correctly, there's an optional boss in Farron Keep, an area you'll get to soon, whose soul can be made into Havel's Ring)

The Master's Attire and Gloves (dropped by the katana guy in Firelink Shrine) are also pretty good because they have one of the lowest weights in the game, so they're giving you that flat damage reduction bonus for no additional cost. The armor stuff sold by Greirat are also pretty neat for their weight cost. My personal favorites are all only available in the late game: Lorian's set, the Dragonslayer set and the Millwood set.

Serious answer: Armor doesn't really matters in Dark Souls 3.

Your primary concern should be weapons. The armor has very... limited effect on the gameplay. Due to how calculations works - damage absorption between light and heavy armor makes little difference. At best you'll survive 1 more, maybe 2 hits of a straight sword or a dagger.

The only stat that you should care about is Poise and only if you either use a two-handed hammer, halberd, greatsword or any of the ultra-great weapons (which are the only one that work one-handed).
If you use anything below that (straight, curved, thrusting swords, katanas, axes, spears, etc) - poise doesn't matter to you and then neither does armor.

So fashion is basically your #1 concern most of the time.

To be fair: starting class Knight Armor set is very decent and well-rounded. And looks good too (in my opinion, at least).

Somewhere in undead settlement there's a hidden Mirrah Knight armor set, which is a light armor set (less absorption, VERY little poise, but weights less too, obviously).

Later, in the crucifixion woods swamp you will find a Fallen Knight set, which is also inferior to default Knight Set except for fashion and maybe fire damage absorption.

Alternatively you can try to farm Lothric Knight at Lothric High Wall (huge knights in plate armor with big red capes).
If you'll farm them long enough - they will drop pieces of their armor set and maybe even weapons (straight sword, spear, a shield and a greatshield).
Lothric Knight set is superior to default knight set absorption and poise wise, but is also very heavy and you will need to invest into Vitality in order to carry it around and stay under 70% equip load ratio to avoid fat-rolling which is a suicide in this game (in my honest opinion, unless you use a greatshield).

That's all i can say.
You might find better sets later. Just keep playing and remember to explore.

That Lothric Knight armor is great early game if you have enough vit and don't mind a little repetition. On my current character I farmed high wall until I looted a full set, and that put me into SL 30s.
Armour does matter if you're up against things that hit super hard. I'd rather take 3-4 hits before i die rather than 2 hits.

Well yes, heavy armor will allow you to tank 1, maybe 2 hits at best (corelates to how strong the enemy is), but that's what Dark Souls ia about - clutches and close cuttings. If you now can survive a move you couldn't survive before - that's a huge difference in Dark Souls world.
