Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000

More games like AVP 1 & 2?
I'm a huge fan of the avp games, and old school shooters in general. Particularly shooters based in outer space or on alien planets, and the quake-era graphics. Naturally, AVP2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I've done a lot of looking online, and I just can't find another game like it. There's plenty of retro shooters, but almost none of them are set in outer space, and the few that are seem to be made using the doom engine or something similar. I like retro, but I'm looking for something that is at least fully 3d. So my question is does anyone know of more games like AVP 1 or 2? Retro space fps games that aren't 2.5d? Doesn't have to be super retro. Prey and Doom 3 are also pretty fantastic, imo. But just something like these games. Space/horror games. Anything with aliens. Even ufo/gray-type aliens. Anyone?
Thank you.

Quake 2 and Unreal: Gold are probably among the closest you'll find.

Quake and Unreal are also fantastic games, so good choices. Though, I was hoping maybe I'm missing an underrated gem somewhere. I know they made more than like 10 games in the late 90's/early 2000's, but whenever I try to look up games from that era, people always recommend the best ones. Don't get me wrong, they're recommended for a reason; they're great games. But I'm hoping to find one that I haven't played before. Maybe something that was released and then quickly forgotten about. Or even a mod for a game I already have. Anything like that.
Quake and Unreal are damn good games though.

Natural Selection 1 and 2 are also great choices. It's basically AvP meets Starcraft.

Did you hear about Descent 2? There is also a prequel and a Descent 3 available.

Try Alien Swarm, either as a mod for UT2k4 or a standalone project (from the same team) here on Steam.

I didn't play Steam remake so I really can't compare 'em, but I guarantee that the spirit of the mod is pretty close to that of Alien 2 movie and AvP coop mode. Also the mod provides such features as two official campaigns (and some fan made missions) with a modest role-playing system, four marine specialists classes and a decent arsenal with like a dozen weapon and item choices to pick for each mission. Oh, and a multiplayer of course XD I bet that guys from a former Black Cat Games did their best to implement all of the best features from the old mod into it's remake, so it shouldn't be much difference between them in terms of a gameplay... unless you want to command the whole squad of marines, which is the mod's feature.
I believe it's pretty what you requested. Have fun!

All good recommendations, but I'm hoping to go even more obscure if possible.
I tried Alien Swarm, but I can't get past the top down view. I don't know why, but I can't do top down. Cool game though. I wish they'd release a first person view mod for it though.
Descent looks cool. May have to check it out. Never ended up getting it because of the whole flying mechanic. But perhaps I'll have to cave one of these days.
Natural Selection 2 I have already, but for some reason I can't get it working. But I'm looking for more of a single player experience anyways.

And they don't necessarily have to be steam games either, fyi. I have been doing some digging online and I found a few I may have to try:
SHOGO: Mobile armor division
They're alive
Vivisector: Beast Within
Project Snowblind
Marathon Infinity
Requiem: Avenging Angel
Neuro
Kreed
Liquidator 2: Welcome to Hell
FireStarter
Gore: Ultimate Soldier

I know there must've been hundreds of games released inbetween 1998-2002ish. And sci fi space shooters must've been included in there somewhere. I'm trying to find more of the forgotten gems like AVP2. There's gotta be more out there.

Again thanks for the recommendations. Feel free to keep them comin'.

I love this game. Played it a ton back in the day. If you get it to work, let me know how you did because I think I may still have a CD of it lying around.

I agree about the Alien Swarm thing, too. Top-down isn't my thing.

Chasm the Rift. Perhaps unnecessarily a space one 3D shooter, but something of a sci-fi in it.

Good review, got to agree with most of what is said in it. Played the game, pretty fun.

Lately I have stumbled across something called Marahton trilogy, particularly Marathron Infinity. It is an indie free to play open source out-of-STEAM production. Seems like Doom plus System Shock plus Aliens versus Predator Marine.

Marathon Infinity takes the closed universe of the Marathon series and blows it wide open. The solo/co-op campaign, “Blood Tides of Lh’owon,” is a 20-level scenario sporting new textures, weapons, and aliens. More than that, the scenario sheds a surprising new light on the story’s characters and the meaning of events. Having defeated the Pfhor and reawakened the ancient remnants of the S’pht, the player now faces a world where friends become enemies and all is not what it seems…

Marathon Infinity is the most popular Marathon game in online play, and is compatible with hundreds of community-made maps. This release includes the classic graphics, and revamped high-definition textures and weapons.

Actually, Marathon is a very old game made by the developers of the Halo series, Bungie. In 2005 Bungie released the entire game to the public as freeware, then also releasing the source code for the game in 2011.

I see there are info terminals possible to be accessed, presenting the story behind, there is some completely redundant but still present motion tracker, there are tight sci-fi corridors. Come on, it is as if someone has had responded to my "AvP Mission Pack" idea before I even started the rant.

I think it came out before AVP1, though it does say something for the quality of the game if it has so many features you want in the AVP game and yet was able to think and implement them in its own game before AVPs release.
