Any way to stop the camera jerking to Genis every time he casts?
I'm finding myself getting hit by enemies far too often because the camera suddenly snaps away to Genis every time he casts a spell... and to make it worse, it actually slows down for a moment, which throws off my combo timing.

I switched Battle Auto Zoom off in the options because I thought for sure that was the cause of the issue... but it is still happening. What the hell?

What is with games that have this feature anyway? I don't care to suddenly have my attention forced to an AI character just because they did something dramatic...

Battle auto zoom is what makes the camera zoom in and out when you're moving around the battlefield. Turning it off keeps the camera zoomed in and makes it harder to see everything.

The dynamic zooming in on the spellcasters isn't just for dramatic effect because it lets you know which enemy is casting what. It doesn't slow the rest of battle movement; it pauses it completely and resumes as soon as the camera moves back. Never heard of it throwing anyone off.

Might turn that on again. Might not. People on my team aren't enemies though... and pausing is a sort of slowing. Same effect either way. It disrupts my attempts at comboing. Whether you've heard of the issue before doesn't change the fact that it screws with my attempts to get things done and gets me killed.

Well I can't speak for what your experience is, but there's no mechanical reason that the game should stop your combo when it does that. Only solution is to get accustomed to it, I guess.

It is a flaw, y'know. Sure, sometimes I just have to put up with awful sh!t because I'm powerless to stop it, but that doesn't mean that it isn't wrong and I shouldn't even try to find a solution.

Having combos randomly interrupted by a game "feature" is NOT a desirable trait in a game.

At least Dragon's Dogma had the option to switch that nonsense off, and that didn't even have combos to worry about.

I don't recall having this issue in Tales of Vesperia. Maybe they learnt from their mistakes eventually. But then so far I'm finding Vesperia was by far a better game all round than this one.

Funny thing is... when I tried to Google this issue to see if anyone else had found a solution, all I found was a bunch of whining about multiplayer. I didn't even know this game HAD multiplayer. And even when I specifically put "-multiplayer" in the search, it was just complaints about the range of the camera... which so far hasn't bothered me in the slightest inside battle. The zoomed in overworld camera is a different beast entirely, but that also seems to fall under the category of "stupid decisions the devs made and didn't leave an option to switch it off".

It shouldn't be interrupting your combo though is the thing. There's nothing stopping you from starting a combo, having a spell go off, and then continuing the combo. You can look up gameplay/combo videos if you don't believe me. I don't know how much of a "flaw" it is if you're having trouble finding anyone else with the same issue. If it's that distracting though, I can't argue with how it affects you personally. I never had a problem with it and maybe it's just a leftover from the older 2D Tales games.

The multiplayer zooming issue that you're finding was notorious on Gamecube and was made a bit better from PS2 onward. Still far from perfect in this version though.

The overworld camera zooms out if you can find the stone monument in the area that unlocks "long range mode," which lets you ride around on Noishe. That one's an odd choice, I'll admit.

You're saying these things as though you've forgotten what interrupting means... or the fact that it existed before gaming was a thing... As though it somehow meant something different now to what it used to mean.
It is interrupting as in it happens right in the middle of what I'm doing, drags the camera away from my character, and screws with the timing of my actions.
The fact that combos could in theory be continued despite the interruption doesn't make it any less of one. Conversations can be continued in spite of interruptions too, but that doesn't make it any less disruptive, rude and annoying. Getting combos right without being stopped by enemy attacks is annoying enough at the best of times without the timing suddenly being thrown off by time-dilation shenanigans and the camera going walkabout.

... But it is like I'm just arguing semantics now.
I get that there isn't any way to stop it. I'm annoyed by that... but I guess there isn't really anything else to say on the matter. =/

Incidentally... Stone Monuments for the Noishe thing? I thought you had to do the Katz mapmaking thing for that.

Katz Map Making is just an alternative and easy way to enable the feature.
The default way is to explore it yourself and find these guidepost monument hidden at various corners of the map. This way, you can save money.

Tip: The stone monuments tends to "hide" at the corners of the map where people seldom go, like a dead end for example. Some may need you to fly because they could be hiding at locations that cant be normally accessed, like "islands" etc.

Here is an example Picture of where the Guidepost Monument in Triet Desert is located.
