unit control
So one thing I've noticed in trying to play this game is that its like pulling teeth trying to get units what I want them to do. even when I've tried playing on smaller scenarios my soldiers will regularly refuse to move somehwere I want them to go, as if there is an invisible wall in front of them or something or sometimes they will move for a few seconds and then stop again and I have to keep reissueing the same move order over and over again to get that unit to slowly crawl towards where want them to go. Moreover they will stop either partially or even mostly behing friendly units and proceed to start firing even if its only a handful of guys who can even see and fire at the enemy. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Also, I know that a lot of people here have their grievances with the TW series but I can't for the life of me figure out how this games movement and control systems are better? there is no real way to select multiple units and get them to go where I want them to go in a formation that I want them to be in. In TW its easy you just click and drag over the units you want to to move and then click and drag to arrange them where and in what formation you want them. With this game you either have to painstakingly move each unit by hand, which can be a nightmare if you are playing anything above the divisional level, or you have to select the generals of each unit group and oder them to move somewhere without very much control over the formation of the unit group once they reach where they are going. As with my previous question, is there something that I am missing here? I feel like there is because I don't understand how people play this game if it is this mind numbingly complicated just to control their units, let alone fight against the enemy.

Finally, in one of my games where I played as one of the allied divisions in the battle of waterloo, I was defending against the attack of the french gaurd. I of course only commanded a small number of units in the overall battle but all accross the board it was an absolute massacre for the French with the fields just covered in dead Frenchmen and the entire center and right wing of the French forces was either dead or routed. The left wing apparently bugged out and didnt engage in the battle and apart from them there was only a handful of French uits further in the distance. Despite this it still said I lost the battle... what does it take to win battles in this game especially when you are the defender and you hold the point you were supposed to hold

I have not played much due to the ghastly terrain graphics and the interface. I got the game because I am a sucker sometimes for concepts like this.
The problem you are probably having is that your units are being taken back under control by the AI. It can all be disabled of course (depending on the scenario). Smaller battles generally give you more control of your individual units. Larger battles start to require written orders and no direct control.
The interface needs a complete rework. It's tiny, hard to read and generally just bad at indicating what exactly is going on. I mean this is one of those games where you have to game the game rather than play the game because the interface needs so much learning before playing the game is possible

You have to consider the game logic and style is not that of TW; in TW the AI is very very limited because the number of micro units can be managed without problems from the human and it is organized in linear way (no internal hierarchy of commands level). in Scourge all the units have a AI automatically activated which asks to their commanding officers what to do in every situation; the AI of this last reply according to his style of command, evaluate if attack or stop on the base of "stance" he acquires or the player give him; if the AI is not explicitly deactivated the brigade can stop in order to deploy and eventually attack: check this tutorial video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz0Lp3MRBxw
