of course i did it the wrong way, like this:

I did the same thing.
I walked into that room and said "oh hey, this is easy, all I need to do is- there's no down arrow."
Looking at it with the benefit of hindsight, some clever wall bounces off the north wall could've done it, but I didn't think of it at the time.
you'll be fine, otherwise use google and youtube for a playthrought.
I don't think IQ is as much of a factor as how puzzle minded you are
