Settings to improve performance?
I was wondering if someone with a setup like mine (or roughly equivalent) could help me get better performance without making too many graphical sacrifices. I'm currently playing the game in medium 1080p with the exception of textures, which are set to high. As it is, it runs just ok, only struggling in cities (specially the capital's market), panning around fires, doorways and windows or dense vegetation areas. Definitely playable, but would be nice if I could make it smoother, which I can achieve by making it look ugly (shadows and the pop-up gets really distracting at low). Not expecting magic, since my pc is rather humble, but I don't think I understand properly what some of the ingame graphical options do and how best to tweak them.

My specs:
Athlon 860k 3.8 ghz
GTX 750ti
8gb ram
no SSD

I have a roughly similar system, myself (750ti), and with these settings I was able to get 60fps 99% of the time with very little in the way of graphical loss:

VSync: Off (I set this to Adaptive in the NVidia control panel)

Framerate: Variable

AA: None (I actually prefer no AA to the blurry AA this game uses, and the jaggies aren't too bad anyways)

HDR: Low (I think High only adds performance-heavy god rays, while Low still has them, just not as overpowering)

Shadows: Medium (Looks almost just as good as high settings, but is a very big fps boost)

Textures: High

Texture Filtering: 8x

Grass: High

Effect Volume: Medium (Don't notice much different with High, except it hits performance when a lot of healing and other effects are going on)

Distance Scaling: Medium (Again, difference is hard to tell from High, and this one really hits performance in a lot of areas)

Depth of Field: Off (More personal preference, but still has a subtle fps hit)

Camera FOV: 10 (Another personal preference, don't notice this one really affecting fps much)

Thanks for the suggestions, I will definitely try them.

I run everything at max with smooth gameplay with an HD 5850! And that was not even suppose to meet minimum requirement.

I have seen a few threads of people with 970s and 980s with fps issues, so I don't know what is making the difference in performance. I suspect it is my cpu the one having a bad time.

Wow amazingly good tip, most games require v-syn to run smoothly for me, but in some rare cases o have to turn it off to even be able to run a game at low fps, and in this case v-sync tunred off helped a lot, thx :D

Shadows and the Texture Filtering for me is the worse one, for me the game never falls below 50fps but I have it capped at 60 just for stability.

I found that the game creates a log in the local webcache directory every second. If this folder has a lot of files it degrades performance. I fixed my performance issues by clearing down all the old log files, This will have to be done every few hours, there night be a better way. But this made the game much more playable for me.
