Linux rendering crash on joining any server (including local)

Error message is <Unable to link program (program.terrain_light.multipass): com.wurmonline.client.renderer.shaders.ProgramLinkException: <no message>>

I'm running linux mint 21.2 latest mesa and all updates, files have been verified through steam, I've tried cranking all graphics and advanced graphics settings down to minimum, no joy. Can anyone advise next steps?

in steam, go to wurm's properties, and under launch options write
glsl_zero_init=true %command%

made it work for me. In the forum post the dev says it's fixed, but apparently not.
