create a game without it looking like a rpg maker game?
like iis this possible?

i like the idea of creating a rpg, its fun and stuff.

but i just dont want it to have that prg maker look you know.

like if i were to publish it onto steam for example, then i dont want people to instantly look at it and go "o look its a game made in rpg maker"

cuz those a millions on steam, and i ee them every day and get put off.

Yes, it is possible to make it look unlike a typical RPG Maker game. It's all JavaScript.

Edit: glad you approve of this answer. Here's a much earlier one you glossed over:

People dont mind games that are obviously rpg maker games. They get upset if you try to sell the game using only the default rpg maker assets. be creative, get extra tilesets, and characters and monsters and resources.

If you want to make a RPG game that doesn't look like it was made in RPG Maker then YOU have to put the work into it, original artwork, original scripts, original battle engine, original interface, original sound and music, etc.

And not to sound cynical but if you're thinking about making one of those "I've got this great idea for a game and I just need a bunch of people to do all of the work for free!" posts, then...don't. Learn how to use it yourself or be prepared to actually pay people for their work, not a promise of "royalties" when the game like totally makes a million dollars.

woah what's with the hostility

I'm just asking a simple yes or no question

maybe even a link to someone else's game that show an example and that will do for answering my thread.

what's with the story about not paying people and blah blah blah

That wasn't hostility, hostility is my department.

The fact that you're asking whether it's possible to make a game that doesn't look like an RPG Maker game speaks volumes to your technical acumen. To those who have been on forums like these for even a year.

Ergo, there are five possibilities in descending probability for someone like yourself.

Option 1) You decide that video game development is too hard, too much work, etcetera & you quit.

Option 2) You decide that making a game with RPG Maker that doesn't look like an RPG Maker is too hard, too much work, etcetera & you quit.

Option 3) You decide to enlist the aid of other people, but don't know anyone with the technical acumen to do so, & you are unwilling or unable to pay them; so you will attempt to entice people to your cause with very vague promises of future rewards in some distant & ephemeral "someday".

Option 4) You actually spend the money to acquire the expertise you need.

Option 5) You actually spend the time & money to develop the expertise you need.

Option 4 & 5, probably account for less than 1% of total outcomes to this scenario. Option 1 & 2 involve you leaving. Option 3 involves you spamming the forum, which is presumably why Galga felt the need to address that option.

If you say what you mean from the beginning, it's a lot easier for people to understand what you're asking about.

You mean like the multiple people who have already provided you with links to their games in this very thread, which you've dismissed; yet can't be bothered to articulate what you were looking for?

No cupcake,

None of the people who post here have omniscience or telepathy in their skillset, so they aren't capable of plucking the thoughts from your head through the ether of cyberspace.

So all they can do is blindly guess when you provide as vague a description of what you want as you have; & can't be bothered to exert the effort to provide actual details until comment #20
in the thread.

That was actually good advice, even if sardonic. And to boil down what I said, you either have to put in the time yourself or you have to pay someone else for their time if you expect to make something good that doesn't "have that prg maker look" as you put it.

Even when people have put massive amounts of time, work and effort into games which have been commercially successful you can STILL tell it's a RPG Maker game in many cases.

The simple answer to your question is yes but actually doing it is not as simple.

Not just the pictures/images are what make your game look like an RPG maker game. :p My game has nearly any RTP graphics (only characters, and even those are customized)
It is also the layout that screams "RPG Maker" which btw, I don't really mind.

If you want to step away from those, next to other images, you also need to change the layout (with plugins).

My point was that you can make a game that does not look like an RM game by cleverly using images alone. Well, images and saying goodbye to the RPG game mechanics.
JohnDoeNews 2018년 3월 10일 오전 3시 28분
Ah I see. :) Oops. I thought you meant: All you need it so change the pictures.

You mean, use pictures outside the grid, like with show picture command? Yeah, that is always a good idea, for the title, cutscenes and intro's. With use of show picture command, you can actually make a diffrense.
